Apply In-Person for Fresh License

  1. Make sure you have the respective application form for applying.
  2. Form A1, Form S2 and Form S3 for individual
  3. Form A2 for Companies or Bank
  4. Make sure that applicant is eligible for applying
  5. Please make sure that the documents are in hand before applying.
  6. Submit the application form and other required documents to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, at the following address.

  7. Local Police Station will contact the applicant for inquiry
  8. Competent authorities make through assessments regarding
    1. threat based requirements of the arms by the applicant
    2. capabilities of use
    3. safe handling of the arms by the applicant,
    4. physical fitness of the applicant for capabilities of handling the arms,
    5. Background,
    6. antecedent, etc..
  9. and decision is taken accordingly to submits its reports through the Divisional DCP.
  10. If the application is considered and granted by the competent authority, the applicant shall fill in NDAL (Notational Database on Arms License)Data Input Form : NDAL Link
  11. Submit it to the Arms Act Department for uploading in the National Database and generate Unique ID.

Apply for Renewal

  1. Make sure you have the application form for applying -Form A3
  2. Please make sure that the documents are in hand before applying
  3. Application for renewal of Arms License in the specified format should be submitted one month before the date of expiry of arms license
  4. The licensee should produce his/her weapon and license for inspection at the time of renewal and pay the renewal fees.
  5. If the License is a senior citizen, the competent authority may verify physical fitness and mental alertness.
  6. If required, address and current antecedent may be verified through local PS.
  7. Renewal will be done immediately and the necessary thing about renewal will be made in the license.



Apply Online

  1. To Apply or renew Arms (Gun) License, the applicant has to use the following link – link
  2. The applicant has to click the “State Home Department/DM/SDM/Other/MHA” button.
  3. Now select the category, state, district, name of the licensing authority, and service.
  4. The applicant has to enter the unique identification code (UIC), and captcha code and click the “Get Detail” button.
  5. To complete step – 2, the applicant has to enter all the details in license specific details segment.
  6. For the third step complete the endorsement details.
  7. And upload all the necessary documents which are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. Fee details will be mentioned in the following step; the applicant has to pay the fee online mode.
  9. After completing all the processes, the applicant has to click the “Save & Submit” button.
  10. An acknowledgment receipt will be downloaded. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  12. Once the process gets completed successfully, the applicant gets the cancellation firearm license with the authority's signature through email.
  13. The processing time for this procedure is up to 45 days.

EligibilityEdit

  • The license authority shall refuse to grant a license:
    • Where such license is required in respect of any prohibited arms or prohibited ammunition
    • Where such is required by a person whom the licensing authority has reason to believe:
      • To be prohibited by the Indian Arms Rules or by any other law for the time being in force from acquiring, having in his possession or carrying any arms or ammunition.
      • To be of unsound mind.
      • To be for any reason unfit for a license.
Renewal
  • Applicant should have valid Firearm License to renew



FeesEdit

  • Fee information can be obtained directly from the department office while applying.
  • Fees may vary in variation of the arms


ValidityEdit

  • A license is valid for 3 years from the date on which it is granted (unless revoked earlier) and need to be renewed before one month of expiry
  • License may be granted for a shorter period also, if the person by whom the license is required desires or if the licensing authority decides
  • License is renewable from time to time - Even the authority can ask for renewal in between the renewal period for recording purpose

InstructionsEdit

For Applying
  • Licensee may approach the Office of the Deputy Commissioner who is in charge of issuing Arms License Registration.
  • Fill the application form specifying the reason to Transfer the firearm license and submit to the concerned approving authority.
  • On receiving the application, the licensing department checks if the applicant has a past criminal record and verifies address.
  • Neighbours are questioned whether the applicant gets involved in brawls and arguments in the neighbourhood frequently.
  • The applicant is then called for an interview with DCP to determine if he is mentally, physically sound.
  • Applicant should also have a 'valid' reason for wanting to own a gun. Self-defence is counted as one of the reasons
  • The licensing department also sends the applicant's details to the crime record office of the crime branch as well as the national crime record bureau.
  • The applicant is then called for an interview with the DCP licensing.
  • If the applicant clears all the above steps, he is granted arms licence book.
  • Then, the applicant has to purchase the weapon within six months of the issued date of the arms license book.
  • After purchasing the weapon, applicant has to come to the Arms Licensing Branch and submit the purchased weapon, an application for the entry of the weapon, receipt from the Gun house, and the arms license book.
  • After inspection, the District Magistrate signs the Arms License book, and the book is issued to the applicant.
For Renewal

Licensee should fill-in the renewal form and the licensee should produce his weapon and license for inspection at the time of renewal and pay the renewal fees. Renewal will be done immediately and the necessary noting about renewal will be made in the license.

  • Any person who wishes to carry firearms must first secure a license and has to renew before the period of license lapse
  • Every application for the grant of a license shall be submitted in Form A
  • Arm license (also known as a gun license) is a license or permit issued by government to an eligible individual
