Procedure[edit]


This procedure explains various ways to Obtain a Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card in Walajah.

  1. Apply online and send a printed copy of the form and the proof of identity & address by courier
  2. PAN card should be dispatched within 15 days

Required Documents[edit]

  • 2 colour photographs (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
  • 1 Proof of Identity
  • Aadhaar Card
  • 1 Address Proof
  • Application Form (Form 49A)


In case of change in surname for a woman, a self attested marriage certificate should be given.

Identity Proof

Any one of the following is required:

  1. School leaving certificate
  2. Matriculation certificate
  3. Degree of a recognised educational institution
  4. Depository account statement
  5. Credit card statement
  6. Bank account statement/ bank pass book
  7. Water bill
  8. Ration card
  9. Property tax assessment order
  10. Passport
  11. Voters Identity Card
  12. Driving License
  13. Certificate of identity signed by Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councilor or Gazetted Officer



Address Proof

Any one of the following is required:

  1. Electricity bill*
  2. Telephone bill*
  3. Depository account statement*
  4. Credit card statement*
  5. Bank account statement/bank pass book*
  6. Rent receipt*
  7. Employer certificate*
  8. Passport
  9. Voters Identity card
  10. Property tax assessment order
  11. Driving License
  12. Ration card
  13. Certificate of address signed by Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councilor or Gazetted Officer.

Documents submitted as proof of address for serial numbers 1 to 7 should not be more than six months old from the date of application. The name in proof of identity and proof of address should exactly match with the name in application. The best option is to submit a copy of the bank statement as it serves a proof of identity as well as address.

Fees[edit]

  • The fee is Rs.94.00 (Rs.85.00 + 10.3% service tax). Payment can be made either by Demand Draft (payable at Mumbai), Cheque, Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. Demand draft and cheque should be drawn in favour of 'NSDL - PAN'
  • The fee is Rs.944.00 (Rs 85 + dispatch charges Rs 771 + tax) for addresses outside of India. Payment can only be made by Demand Draft



Validity[edit]

Once a PAN is issued, it has forever validity. Thus, it is known as 'PERMANENT' number. Only on demise of individual or winding-up of organisation, the PAN can be surrendered. Also note, it is a PERMANENT number, thus it does not change even in case of change in name due to marriage reasons etc. or takeover of organisations etc.

Processing Time[edit]

It takes around 2 weeks to furnish a PAN. The entire PAN application is outsourced to NSDL and UTIL. Once PAN is issued, it is dispatched and the time it takes depends on your location whether it is in India or abroad. Average courier time to reach abroad locations is around 10-12 working days.

Need for the Document[edit]

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is issued to all juristic entities identifiable under the Indian Income Tax Act 1961. It is issued by the Income Tax Department under the auspices of the Central Board for Direct Taxes (CBDT). PAN nos are 10 digit alphanumeric and are unique, national, and permanent. They mention Date of Birth and can be used as a proof for the same.

This number is almost mandatory for financial transactions such as opening a bank account, receiving taxable salary or professional fees, sale or purchase of assets above specified limits.
