Procedure

1. Go to a Virginias DMV Office.
2. Complete an Application for a Virginia's Driver License Form or ID Card or Child ID Card for minors (under age 15).
3. Submit the necessary documents.
4. Pay the fees.

Validity

Identification cards are valid for five (5) years and expires at the end of the month in which you were born when you reach an age divisible by five.

Instructions

• Whenever applying for an ID card and do not hold a valid Virginia driver's license, you must present documents proving your identification and residency. You may also be required to present proof of legal presence.
• Determine which documents to bring through the interactive Document Guide or review the DMV publication Obtaining a Driver's License or ID Card.
• All documents must be originals.
