Uganda - Obtain a Fishing License

- To apply for a fishing license in Uganda the applicant has to contact the Department of Fishering , Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
- An application is made to the Executive Director of UIA on Form UIA 1 (obtainable from the UIA).
- The form is available at the cost of Shs.1,500 and there is no processing fee.
- Once the application is successfully processed and the authorities are happy with the documents submitted the fishing license will be provided.

This procedure provides you information related to obtaining fishing license in Uganda. Ugandas fish processing sector has expanded greatly in recent years and current export earnings are nearly US$100 million per year.
Large fresh water expanses which rank 7th in the world are home to a wide variety of fish products. Opportunities are available for fish farming and establishment of more fish processing factories on other lakes other than Lake Victoria. Ugandas fish is a delicacy in Europe and has recently penetrated the US market.
For compliance purposes: business licenses, permits and registrations serve the purpose of advising the licensing authorities that the business is functioning and meeting safety, soundness and tax regulations for the authorities.
To regulate the distribution pattern of fish and fish products for international, regional and local markets and to promote traceability capacity by the issuing authority.
