Uganda - Obtain a Certificate of inspection for Fish Storage and Transport

Procedure[edit]

  1. A certificate of inspection for fish storage and transport can be obtained from Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries.
    • All vehicles or vessels used for the transportation of fish or fishery products shall be approved and issued with a certificate of inspection and approval by competent authority.
  2. Fill up the application form and attach all the required conditions as described by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries. The conditions include the following:
    • Fish and fish products shall, during storage and transport, be kept at the temperatures specified in the ordinance.
    • Frozen fish and fish products, must be kept at a temperature of - 18°C or less in all parts of the product.
    • Fresh products should be kept at a temperature of melting ice (0 ± 2°C).
    • Vehicles used for the transportation of fish and fish products should be constructed and equipped in such a way that the temperatures prescribed in above are maintained throughout the period of transportation.
    • be provided with adequate drainage in order to ensure that water from melted ice does not stay in contact with the fish or fish products where ice is used to chill fish or fish products.
    • All vehicles used for the transportation of fish and fish products shall be in good state of repair to ensure fast and safe delivery.
  3. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee by the Authority.
  4. Submit the dully filled in form attached with pay slip to the fish inspection Officer in charge of the department.
  5. Obtain your certificate from where your application was submitted within 3 days from the date the application was received at Fisheries Department in case there is no rejection.
  6. It is an offence to transport fish products in a vehicle or container which is not clean and disinfected or which does not meet the conditions laid down in the ordinance rules.

Eligibility[edit]

Applicant to be eligible should be operating Vessel/vehicle strictly for transportation of fish or fishery products.

Certificate fee: 500,000 Ugshs

Need for the Document[edit]

Information which might help[edit]

  • Cleaning of vehicles, and in particular the interiors of fish containers shall use potable or clean water.
  • Loading and unloading facilities shall be made and constructed of material which is easy to clean, disinfect and must be kept in a good state of repair and cleanliness. Unloading and loading operations shall proceed rapidly with vehicle engines switched off.
  • Fish or fish products shall be placed without unnecessary delay in a protected environment at the temperature required on the basis of the nature of the product;
  • Equipment and handling practices that cause unnecessary damage to the edible parts of the fish or fish products shall be avoided.
  • All vehicles used for the transportation of fish and fish products shall be in good state of repair to ensure fast and safe delivery.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate[edit]
