Uganda - National Identification Number Registration of Alien Persons (Foreigner)

Apply in person
- Applicant should gather all the required documents, and visit the National identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) or the register office near to you
- Approach the services desk and request for the application form A read through the instruction carefully and fill it accurately, attach all required documents copy and submit them to the registrar
- The registrar will then verify and process your application if all the information are in order and enter you into the register book and issue you with a unique identification number, you will be asked when to came and collect your alien identity card

- Bank slip (proof of payment)at any of the banks with URA services
- Work permit
- Certificate of residence
- Accurately dully filled and signed application form
- Two passport photograph

Withdrawal of alien’s identity cards.
The board shall withdraw the alien’s identity card of any alien—
- on the holder acquiring citizenship of Uganda
- on the holder’s departure from Uganda with no intention of returning or
- On the death of the holder.

- Alien ID card is a document for foreign nationals which enables them to have an ID recognized by Uganda government institutions and gives access to services such as URA PIN and applying for work permit, opening a business bank account, applying for Company URA PIN, making tax returns and many more

Loss of identity card
- On the loss, destruction or damage of an identity card, the holder of the card shall report the loss, destruction or damage to the nearest police station or immigration office giving the details of the identity card and a detailed account of the circumstances under which the loss, destruction or damage occurred, and the officer in charge or immigration officer shall issue a temporary document to the holder notifying the loss, destruction or damage of the card.
- Where a card reported lost is not found within a month of its loss, and in case of destruction or damage as soon as practicable, the registration officer shall issue a new card to the alien.
Independent registration at eighteen years
- On attaining the age of eighteen years, an alien registered as a child shall present himself or herself to the registration officer of his or her place of residence for an independent registration and on his or her registration—
- (a) His or her name shall be struck off the list of children
- (b) He or she shall be issued with a registration certificate and identity card
