Uganda - Deregistration of a Self-Help Group or Community Project

To deregister a self-help group i.e.(Youth / Women /Men/PWD/Older persons/Community project group) one has to make an application with the Ministry of gender Labour and Social development.
Step 1:Hold a group meeting seeking deregistration of the group.
- The minutes of the meeting seeking deregistration of the group, this should be endorsed by at least 2/3 of the members.
Step 2:Application for deregistration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social development.
- Visit the either Sub-county’s labour offices, District planning committee, Youth and Gender Affairs Offices, in your respective sub-county to make the application with the respective officer.
- Here you will be given a DEREGISTRATION FORM FOR A SELF HELP GROUP form to fill and submit.
- Fill the Registration Form and attach the following

- Official letter from the SHG/ Community project.
- Original certificate.
- Minutes from SHG/ Community project with reasons of deregistration signed not less than two thirds of the members.
- List of Members names, ID Nos and Signature.
Step 3:Obtain the Acknowledgment of Deregistration
- It takes one day to be deregistered. If approved, an acknowledgment of deregistration is issued by the Ministry of gender Labour and Social development Office.

The de-registration officially removes a group from formal recognition and listing in the government records.
Information which might helpEdit
- A group should be de-registered in the Sub-county it resides.The de-registration offices are located in all sub-counties in the districts around the country.
- If three months after submitting a programme for self-help projects the county chief is not notified by the district planning committee to the contrary,he or she may proceed to carry out,or authorise the sub county chief or chiefs to carry out, the projects listed in the programme.
- Except that no projects shall be commenced in respect of which there is specified in the programme the need for financial assistance from the Government or in respect of which a planning committee has notified the county chief that such assistance shall be required; or
- In respect of which any other assistance from the Government has either been requested in the programme or the county chief has been notified by a planning committee that such assistance shall be required and no assurance of such assistance has been given to the chief by the appropriate department of the Government.
