How to apply
In person application
- Applicant should visit National Identification and Register Authority Office (NIRA) branch office near them and request for the application form :Application form
- Fill the form accurately and attach required documents and submit them to the attending officer who will verify your documents
- Pay the application fee
- The NIRA staff will then take your Bio-metric detail, You will be given a notification number and also be told on the date and location to pick your new corrected national ID
Online application
- Applicant should Visit the National Identification and Register Authority Office (NIRA) website using a browser on any device, navigate to NIRA and click on FORM.
- This should open a drop-down-menu, Click on Forms for Registration of Persons.
- You should now be directed to a new page showing a list of all available forms. Click to download form 1 :form 1
- Fill in all the required information accurately and sign the document. Once done, the next step is to process your payment slip.
- Visit the official Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) website and click on e-services. While on the e-services page, click on Payment Registration in the Payments section.
- Select DT as the Payment Type and choose Other NTR.
- Select NIRA in the Ministry section and Miscellaneous Payments as Department.
- Remember to select Correction of Errors-New ID Required as the TAX HEAD option.
- Fill the rest of the form and validate all the information are filled accurately and print your payment receipt.
- Visit the bank and make your payment. Gather all the documents required for the application and visit the NIRA office near you for processing
- The NIRA staff will then take your Bio-metric detail, your details will be verified, purpose acknowledged and application received. You will be given a notification number and also be told on the date and location to pick your new corrected national ID

Change name in ID card
- A deed poll (which can be acquired through a lawyer and be approved by Uganda Registration Services Bureau [URSB]
- Copy of Uganda gazette add of charge of name
- Copy Identification document e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate
- Accurately dulled filled application form
- Bank slip (proof of payment)
Correcting spelling error
- Copy of Supporting documents e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, academic document, baptism certificate, work document etc.
- A statutory declaration duly registered by Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).
- Accurately filled application form
- Bank slip (proof of payment)
Changing place of residence
- A letter from the L.C.I chairperson, duly stamped by the DISO (including telephone contacts), confirming citizenship, current residence and the period of time applicant has stayed at the said residence.

InstructionsEdit
- You can correct your national identity card details by filled in the NIRA from 1(Notification of change –error in information in the register)
- Whether you want to change name errors, date of birth mistake, add a new name and etc. NIRA form 1 is the form you are supposed to fill
- You will also be required to submit a dully filled and signed form 1, a payment bank slip and the original national identity card to the NIRA office.
- Your details will be verified, purpose acknowledged and application received. You will be given a notification number and also be told on the date and location to pick your ID Form

- The identification card is used to prove one is a Uganda citizen, and all Ugandan citizen of 18 years and above are required to have a valid ID card
Information which might helpEdit
- To correct information on your national ID, you’ll be charged UGX 50,000. (The money is paid at any URA revenue collection bank such as Bank of Africa, Diamond Trust Bank, Stanbic, Barclays, Orient, etc. [Remember, the fees are exclusive of bank charges].)

There are many situations where you need to prove that who you are. The identity card will allow you to do this in number of ways;
- Proving Age
- Traveling abroad within the East African Region (as per the signed protocols allowing for the use of the National Identity Card across the region)
- On day to day basis for identification to law enforcement officers.
- Accessing financial services e.g. Opening a bank account.
- Processing land transactions
- Confirming right to work.
- Accessing public services for which citizens are entitled.
- Identifying you as a citizen for purposes of voting.
