Uganda - Changing information on your National Social Security Fund Card

HOW TO APPLY
Update or correcting information
- Visit the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) branch office near you with all the required documents
- Approach the service desk and request for the application of member detail update or error correction form, fill it accurate
- Submit the filled form with all the required documents to the attending official who will verify and process the documents, upon which he/she will update all the information into the NSSF computer system data base
Change your password information:
- Visit the NSSF website portal [www.nssfug.org Apply online]under “what do you wish to do” drop box select “e statement and self-registration”
- You will redirected to the next page select “e statement”
- Fill in your NSSF number and your password on the e-statement feature on the left-hand side of the screen and log in
- Then click “change password” and Fill in your NSSF number and new password
- Confirm new password and submit then View statement
Changing contact details:
- A member should notify NSSF as soon as he/she changes his/her contact details by either visiting the nearest NSSF office in-person or contacting them via phone, fax, or e-mail which can be found here NSSF
- That way, NSSF can update the member’s records and keep his/her payment information current.
If you have changed your place of employment:
- All one need to do is give his/her new employer with that existing membership number. One does not have to register afresh.

- Birth certificate of children in case of child born after the initial registration of the card
- Marriage certificate or spouse ID card in case of marriage
- Deed poll in case of changing birth name by the applicant
- Birth certificate of children in case of child born after the initial registration of the card

EligibilityEdit
- Employed persons of 16 years and above who already have a national social security fund card are need to update their information as a result of updating beneficiaries’ names, change of applicant original birth name, change of password or correction of detail do to error.

- No payment is made when changing or updating information on your NSSF card
ValidityEdit
- The membership card is valid until retirement.

InstructionsEdit
Change of employment:
A member who changes employment should maintain the same social security number.There is no need for a new card as all contributions from the different employers will be posted on the same account.
Incorrect details on card:
A person who has a membership card containing any information which is to his/her knowledge incorrect should inform NSSF so that a fresh card may be issued

NSSF Benefits:
- As per the Act, NSSF administers and pays qualified contributing persons the following benefits as a matter of right
Age Benefit
- This is paid to members who have reached the retirement age of 55. Age benefit can also be claimed on attaining the age of 50, provided the claimant has retired from employment
Survivors Benefit
- This is paid to the immediate surviving family (spouse and children) of the deceased member. In case the member did not have a spouse or children, the benefit is paid to parents if they solely depended upon the deceased member.
Exempted Employment:
- This is paid to members who join excepted employment categories that have their own Social Protection Schemes e.g. public service, Army, Police etc
Emigration Grant:
- This is paid to foreign or Ugandan members who are leaving the country permanently
Invalidity Benefit:
- This is paid to members who can no longer be gainfully employed because of physical or mental incapacitation.
Withdrawal Benefit:
- This is paid to a member if he or she attains the age of fifty years; and if he or she has not been employed under a contract of service for a period of one year immediately preceding his or her claim
Investments:
- The NSSF Board of Directors, through Management has a legal and fiduciary obligation to act in the best financial interest of the Fund's beneficiaries and to exercise the highest standard of care. Premised on the above, the Fund has established Investment Policy Guidelines and Strategies that are vital to all the Fund's stakeholders.
- NSSF believes that the projected pension benefits can best be met by having the proper long term asset mix, including proper diversification as well as prudent management of risks.
- The Board of Directors has approved an asset mix that has strong equity skew and considers the alternative asset class of Real Estate. This should enable the fund to achieve revenue targets that can sustain the desired interest levels to members.
- NSSF has an array of permissible investments covering almost all sectors of the economy. These include; real estate development, energy, water, education, health, mortgage finance (both primary and secondary) and SME developments.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
- NSSF doesn't give out Loans directly to members. However NSSF has invested in equities in different banks where members can access loans.
