ProcedureEdit

Step 1.

  • Get started by logging into Uganda Revenue Authority Portal Uganda Revenue Authority.Login if you have already created an account.If you have not created an account yet, select Register and follow the guide under that link to create your account.
  • Visit the URA web portal Uganda Revenue Authority,and login to your account and Enter TIN, password log in.

Step 2.

  • After logging in, go to e-Return Services for individual or non-individual on the Left Menu, select e-Returns and select the type of return that you wish to file.(Point on e-returns to select the type of return to be filed).

Step 3.

  • Download the Return template for the return you wish to file, from the list provided under e-Services for individual such as monthly VAT return form and select save.
  • It is better not to rename the upload file, when you are renaming, you are not supposed to leave space or use any unique character (`! $ %^*()@\&’”#;:{}/\) i.e.Monthly_VAT_Return02 or Monthly_VAT_Return_2014

Step 4.

  • Open the template, before filling out the template; enable macros by following the instructions on the sheet labeled help, on the form you have downloaded, after enabling macros, close the file and open it again, you should get a pop up message that” *Please DO NOT cut and paste any values in the sheet ”.

Step 5.

  • After filling in all the required information, validate the form by clicking the VALIDATE button on the last page of the return.

Step 6.

  • In case of no errors, click on yes to generate an upload file, in case there are errors click on the error sheet, correct the errors, save and validate a gain, click on yes to generate an upload file.

Step 7.

  • Save the uploaded version at the desired location.

Step 8.

  • Go back to the home page and log in to your account using TIN and pass word as seen below;
  • After logging in, under e-services on left side, place your cursor on E-Returns and select the type of return you want to file.

Step 9.
Select the period for which the return is being filed and click check.

  • Enter all the details required

Step 10.

  • Select the return period, image text as it appears, click on browse to attach an upload file, click upload to submit the return online.
  • If the form fails online validation, correct the specified errors on the saved template (from which you generated the upload file), save the file, validate and re-generate another upload file.
  • Try to upload the file again.

Step 11.

  • If the upload is successful, click Submit, to submit your return.
  • An e-Acknowledgement receipt will be generated and a copy sent to the email address provided at registration and the TIN account

  1. Form from Employer.
  2. The employers PIN. Request PIN from your employer if not already got one.
  3. Financial statements for the following incomes; business income, farming income, rent income.
  4. Mortgage Interest Certificate and PIN of lender
  5. Insurance Premium Certificate and PIN of underwrite
  6. Withholding tax certificates
  7. Any other documentation relating to income you received or deductions you want to claim

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person who earns an income, either from Business or in any other legal way is under obligation to file a tax return.

FeesEdit

  • Its free to apply for a tax return

ValidityEdit

  • The PAYE end of year returns are due on the 28th February following the end of calendar year
  • All individual Returns (IT1's) are due on 30th June following the end of the year of income
  • Company & Partnership Returns are due on the 30th day of the 6th month following end of the business accounting period/date
  • Excise Returns are lodged at payment point i.e. Commercial Banks on the 20th day following month of deduction.

  • Using the online method, it is instantly done after clicking the submit button.
  • This usually takes a few minutes.

  • In all countries, filing tax returns every financial year is mandatory for all the tax payers.
  • The rules and regulations surrounding tax returns differ from one country to another.
  • it will be easy to prepare Tax return accurately to avoid stress and time consuming by preparing the file early instead of waiting for the deadline.
  • A tax return is a personal declaration income made annually to the tax authorities and is used as a basis for accessing an individuals liability for taxation.
  • Returns may be obtained from either Large Taxpayers offices and Domestic Revenue countrywide, using distribution channels such as, Delivery to taxpayers, and through employers to reach their employees or by downloading from the URA website.
  • Once you submit successfully a message appears informing you that your request has been processed successfully.
  • If there is payment to be made, select the link Confirm E-Slip.
  • If no payment is to be made then the only option available will be Display Tax Return
  • The authority has warned it will no longer accept manual filing of returns.
