Procedure

Apply In-Person

• To apply for renewal of vehicle fitness certificate in Tripura the applicant has to approach the RTO office of the area.
  
• Information related to the RTO offices and permit issuing state/regional transport authorities can be obtained from the “Office and Location” Section of this page.
  
• You will have to submit Application in Form C.R.R.A in front of registering authority.
  
• The application form no. C.R.R.A can be downloaded from following link: application form no. C.R.R.A
  
• Application form can also be obtained from the RTO office.
  
• It should be filled as instructed.
  
• Applicant can book a slot for vehicle fitness through following link: Online booking
  
• Inspector will Endorse a date, time and location for fitness test.
  
• If for some reasons, Owner cannot bring the vehicle then 15 days before the previous certificate expires, Inform RTO.
  
• If on previous certificate no date, time details is listed, then reapply with application form C.R.R.A again a month before (30 days before).
  
• If vehicle is not produced on appointment date, Full fees (And Not Just Renewal Fees) has to be paid as per respected clause and laws.
  
• If, owing to mechanical break-down or other cause, a motor vehicle, after the expiry date of the certificate, remains outside the area of the registering authority, the Officer of the Motor Vehicles Department in whose jurisdiction the vehicle is kept and if the vehicle in his opinion is fit for use, make an endorsement in subject to condition as that officer specify for such time as reasonably be necessary for the vehicle to return to the area of registering authority for renewal.
  
• If a vehicle is damaged and unfit for ordinary use, the Inspector of Motor vehicle is satisfied that it is necessary that the vehicle should be safely driven at a reduced speed to a place of repairs, he may endorse in and specify the time, speed and other conditions if any, subject to which the vehicle be driven to a specified destination for the purposes of repairs.
  
• Issued Certificate may only be cancelled by Assistant Regional Transport Officer and above rank, if required.
  
• If the motor is not fulfilling the conditions as per Motor Vehicle Act and in any case certificate cannot be issued. Officer has to details the same in writing.
  
• Authority if cancelling the certificate due to unfit conditions have to give writing to owner / in charge of vehicle using form C.F.C and also inform registering authority.
  
• The owner or the person in charge of the vehicle, have to apply for the restoration of the certificate of fitness, if the vehicle has been repaired. If such a vehicle is inspected and passed within fourteen days of the date of cancellation of the certificate of fitness but before the date of expiry specified in such certificate, no restoration fee should be charged. However, if the vehicle is brought for inspection at any later time, fresh certificate of fitness should be issued.
  
• The RTO testing station should fill duplicate form and upon inspection give the original copy to the driver / owner.

• Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  
  

Apply Online - Tripura Renew Vehicle Fitness Certificate (FC) Online with Images

1. You can also apply for renewal of vehicle fitness certificate in Tripura through the national portal.
   
2. The following link will give you access to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India: Vahan Citizen service
   
3. From the dropdown menu on the website select the vehicle related services option from the “online services” tab option
   
4. You will be directed to the service page.
   
5. Enter Valid Vehicle Registration Number and click on Proceed
   
6. Select the Service “Apply for fitness renewal” Service under Online Services Menu
   
7. Enter Chassis Number and Mobile Number.
   
8. Enter the OTP received and Click on Show details.
   
9. Enter further details as per the form displayed.
   
10. Click Submit and then Confirm and Make Payment
    
11. Once Payment Done, Print Receipt.
    
12. Book Appointment to visit RTO for inspection your vehicle.
    
13. Visit to Respective RTO with required documents.
    
14. In Case of:
    

(a) Payment Failure : Apply Again

(b) Payment Success but Receipt Printing Failed :

1. Wait for 1-2 hrs,
   
2. Do step 1 and then Click Status>Check Pending Transaction
   
3. Enter the application number sent
   
4. Registration Number and Chassis Number. Click Show details
   
5. Select the respective Transaction and Click Check to Bank and confirm Payment.
   
6. If Transaction failed then apply again
   
   

Printing application

1. You can take printout of online application form with the help of the link: please follow the link Online portal
   
2. Select “Gujarat” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”.
   
3. In the next window, please click “Download Forms” to select “Print application form” option.
   
4. Please enter your application number in the next window and hit” Submit” follow the next window to get the printout.

3. In the new window fill in required details and hit Submit to process your request to book appointment.

Validity

• Fitness certificate for Commercial vehicle is valid for one year. Hence, needs to be renewed yearly.
  
• Private vehicle needs to get it renewed after 15 years.

Instructions for online fitness certificate renewal

• Select Fitness Fee From Online Services List.
  
• Enter Registration Number, Last 5 Digits Of Chassis Number, Mobile Number And Click On Generate OTP.
  
• Enter The OTP Received At Mobile And Click On Show Details.
  
• A Notification Or Alert Is Indicated On Top Regarding Insurance.
  
• Select Insurance Type And Insurance Company From Drop Down List.
  
• Enter Policy Number, Insurance From Date, Insurance Upto Date And Insurance Declared Value.
  
• Fee Panel Will Indicate The All The Fees Head Wise And Grand Total That Applicant Have To Deposit.
  
• Enter Verification Code And Click On Payment.
  
• A Fees Collection Details Alert Will Generate And Click Confirm Payment.

• Every vehicle owner who has two wheeler or a car categorised as Private vehicle or any form of Commercial vehicle like LVM (Transport), Medium or Heavy Goods passenger needs to apply for or have valid vehicle fitness certificate, if not already have. A newly registered vehicle with a certificate is valid for 2 years while any private vehicle must renew their certificate after 15 years. Also remember that a vehicle is not validly registered if it don’t posses this certificate along. For any other commercial vehicle the renewal is compulsory yearly, It includes all public transport vehicles like Buses (Private School Buses etc / Public Transport), Auto Rickshaws and Taxis (cabs). Your vehicle can be confiscated as per law if required.
  

It has been asked to keep an eye on various RTO offices by giving surprise visits and checking on the process been carried out perfectly. The fitness test timings at RTO which will be tested by Motor Vehicle Inspector will be 10:00 Minutes for Rickshaw, 15:00 Minutes for a Cab, 20:00 Minutes for Heavy Transport vehicle like Truck, 25 minutes for any Bus.

Q: How is the test conducted?

Ans:A basic example of vehicle test that is carried out is by making it run on 150 to 400 meters long road at a speed of 40 KM / hour and been asked to apply brakes. The fitness result test depends on the distance at which the vehicle stops. RTO inspector passes / rejects the vehicle test on such results.

Q: What are the criteria of deciding the fitness of my commercial vehicle?

Ans: The vehicle is physically inspected by Motor Vehicles Inspectors for their actual roadworthiness. The vehicles that comply with the following norms are considered to be fit for use on road.

Q: Can my vehicle fitness certificate be cancelled even if the same is valid but the vehicle is found to be unsafe & unsound?

Ans: Yes. You have to maintain your vehicle fit and roadworthy through out the year. Having a valid certificate of fitness is not enough.

Q. What happens if my vehicle meets with an accident with valid certificate of fitness and also when the same has expired?

Ans: The first case mechanical test will decide whether the vehicle was roadworthy at the time of accident or not. If it is found that the vehicle was unfit for use on road, then the certificate of fitness will automatically stand suspended. You will have to repair the vehicle and produce the same for inspection-cum-restoration of the certificate of fitness on payment of twice the original fee. In the second instance you will be held responsible for plying vehicle without valid registration and legal actions will be initiated against you.

• You may face a penalty of Rs.1000 if already crossed the date which stays for 10 days and from 11th day the charges will be Rs.100 per day. Alternately along with this fine your permit to ply may be suspended for that 10 days till you get the process done and ready with a valid fitness certificate.
