  • Affidavits are important legal documents and are often used in court proceedings in place of in-person testimony when a declarant is unavailable or unwilling to testify in person. Affidavits are also used to verify that information found within another document is true.

Information which might help[edit]

The Maharashtra government has clarified that stamp paper is not required for the affidavits filed by applicants for different certificates.
A General Affidavit is a written sworn statement. A General Affidavit allows the person making the statement (known as the Declarant) to make certain statements under oath and in writing. The Declarant then has the option to just sign the Affidavit or to sign it in front of a notary public, S.E.M. or Oaths Commissioner. There are two versions of the affidavit: a General Affidavit requiring only the signature of the Declarant and an Affidavit requiring the signatures of both the Declarant and a notary.
Among others, this General Affidavit includes the following provisions:

  • Declaring: Identifies the person making the declaration;
  • Location: Current address of the individual signing the Affidavit;
  • Facts: A statement of the facts that are being declared under oath;
  • Signature: The signature of the person making the declaration under oath;
  • Notary Acknowledgment: The document can be notarized if required.
