Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Registration of Arts Therapists, the applicant must go to the Health Professions Council of South Africa’s (HPCSA) office. Address & Contact Link
2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the HPCSA office.
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents, it must be submitted to the Professional Board in HPSCA office.
5. The HPCSA Administration will conduct the relevant confirmatory check in respect of work permits with the Department of Home Affairs.
6. Then the application will be circulated to the Professional Board in the PDF to determine suitability for the HPCSA board examination.
7. The final decision of approval will be made combined by the Professional Board and the HPSCA administration.
8. If the details and the documents submitted by the applicant is valid and legitimate, then the registration will be approved.
9. If the registration is approved, then the applicant must successfully complete the board exam conducted within a year by the education committee of HPCSA.
10. The applicant must pay the examination fee stated by the examination committee.
11. After successfully completing the examination, the applicant will receive the Registration certificate from the HPSCA board.
12. If the applicant was unable to successfully complete the board examination, then the application will be rejected by the HPSCA board.
13. The fee details and the processing time of the application will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

Required Documents

• Application Form.
• Copies of all degree/diploma certificates or equivalent academic qualifications certified by an attorney in his or her capacity as notary public and bearing the official stamp as well as sworn translation of these into English. (Copies certified only by a Commissioner of Oaths will not be accepted. In view of possible damage or loss of such documents, documents should be sent by registered mail.)
• A recent original Certificate of Status (Certificate of Good Standing), issued by the foreign registration authority/ies where the applicant is currently registered. Such certificates will only be accepted if they were issued within the preceding three months.
• A copy of a valid Passport or Identity Document as proof of current citizenship, duly certified by a notary public.
• A letter of endorsement in support of the application for registration issued by the Directorate of Workforce Management (DWM) of the National Department of Health (Form 176 DOH attached hereto for this purpose).
• Detailed curriculum (in English) of the applicant’s course of study, specifying courses, content of education (theory) and training (practical/clinical), duration and mode of examination/evaluation.

Eligibility

• Any individual who obtained the qualification as an Art Therapists outside the South Africa is eligible to apply for the registration.

Fees

• The fee details of the application and qualification examination will be intimated to the applicant while applying

Validity

• The validity period of the registration will be intimate in the registration certificate issued to the applicant after completing the qualification exam conducted by the education committee.
