Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for registering a Medical Aid Scheme in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Council for Medical Schemes.
  2. The contact and address details can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the office of CMS and get an application form to apply for Registering a Medical Aid Scheme from the relevant department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application form as required with relevant information and details, and then attach the documents with the completed form.
  6. Then submit the package to the relevant authority at the office of Council for Medical Schemes for further processes.
  7. The application form and attached documents will be forwarded to the concerned officials for further processes.
  8. Once all the processes are completed, the Registrar will grant an order to register the concerned Medical Aid Scheme.

  • Any person who wishes to carry on the business of a medical scheme shall apply for a Registration at the CMS office.
  • The person applying should hold an Identity proof and he/she must be aware of the compliance terms of the Medical Scheme Act before applying.

InstructionsEdit

  • A medical scheme shall not use or refer to itself by a name other than the name under which it is registered or a literal translation or an abbreviation thereof which has been approved by the Registrar.
  • The Registrar may demand from the person who manages the business of a medical scheme which is in the process of being established, such financial guarantees as will in the opinion of the Council ensure the financial stability of the medical scheme.
  • A medical scheme shall not change its name without the prior written consent of the Registrar.
