Apply In Person

  1. To apply Student Loan, the applicant has to approach any bank in Singapore or as per the flexibility or as per their university guidance.
  2. Applicant has to get the form from the respective office.
  3. Applicant has to fill-in all the necessary details in application form.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Applicant has to attach the photocopies along with the application form.
  6. After completing the form, submit the form in the bank with the required documents.
  7. Once the application is approved, the bank will ask the applicant to sign or applicant guarantor signature.


NOTE: Read the loan agreement carefully before signing, take note of the interest rate, grace period, when you will start repaying the loan and any penalties in case of default.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • NRIC (front and back) of student/main applicant/guarantor(s)
  • Income documents of Main Applicant/Guarantor(s).
  • For applicants earning a salary:
    • Latest computerized pay slip or
    • Latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment or
    • Past 6 months' CPF Statement of Account
  • For self-employed/commission-based earners:
    • Last 2 years' Income Tax Notice of Assessment
    • Acceptance letter from school, stating type and duration of course
    • Proof of relationship between student and main/joint applicant or guarantor


Note: The bank may ask you to present additional documents, check the bank's website first before going to their branch office to apply for a loan.

EligibilityEdit

  • Tuition Fee Loan - Banks
  • Tuition fee loans are available to Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and Foreign students studying in the respective local institutions.
  • University / NIE: All students studying in any of the local universities/NIE may apply for this type of loan if they do not fall into any category below:
    • Students receiving any Government/Statutory Board/any school scholarships which cover tuition fees
    • Students receiving full Tuition Fee Subsidy from MENDAKI
    • Students using CPF savings for payment of 100% of the subsidized tuition fees
    • Students on self-funded courses
    • Foreign students who are paying full fees (not eligible for any Tuition Fee Grant)
    • No income requirement and age restriction.
  • For the Guarantor:
    • Aged between 21 to 60
    • Is not discharged as a bankrupt.


Polytechnic: Singapore Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, SIM University and Singapore University of Technology and Design.
All full-time subsidized diploma students studying in any of the local polytechnics may apply for this type of loan if they do not fall into any category below:

  • Students receiving any Government/Statutory Board/any school scholarships which cover tuition fees
  • Students receiving full Tuition Fee Subsidy from MENDAKI
  • Students using CPF savings for payment of 100% of the subsidized tuition fees
  • No income requirement and age restriction.
  • For the Guarantor:
    • Aged between 21 to 60
    • Is not discharged as a bankrupt.
  • Education loan - Banks:
    • Some banks in Singapore offering education loans requires that the:
  • Main Applicant/Student must be: Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  • Applicant's age: Minimum 18, maximum 65 years of age upon loan maturity
  • Minimum income of the applicant is S$18,000 p.a. (required for loan for local part-time studies only) - guarantor required
  • Guarantor(s) must be:
    • Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
    • Minimum 21, maximum 65 years of age upon loan maturity
    • Minimum income of S$30,000 p.a.

  • Repayment period for most education/study/tuition fee loans starts after course completion.

Before applying for a student loan:

  • Make sure that you can present and submit all the required documents that the bank is asking for.
  • Take note of the interest rate, conditions, and repayment scheme that the bank is offering. Look into several banks and do some research regarding the bank's application process.
  • The applicant might also need to consider the bank's customer service before you apply for a loan, since student/education/tuition fee loans are usually long term, it will make transactions easier and can spare you from a lot of headaches in the future if your bank has good and accommodating bank representatives or loan officers.
  • Loan amount: You may not need to accept the entire amount of the loan the bank is offering you. Remember that what you are getting is not a grant but a loan, meaning you will need to pay back everything plus interest sometime in the future.
