Procedure

There are different types of petroleum storage licenses, depending on the amount and type of petroleum the applicant intends to store. The licenses are categorized as follows:

1. Small Storage License: For storing up to 2,500 liters of petroleum.
2. Medium Storage License: For storing between 2,501 and 50,000 liters of petroleum.
3. Large Storage License: For storing over 50,000 liters of petroleum.

1. To Renew Petroleum Storage License, the applicant has to approach the SCOTLAND LOCAL COUNCIL link

Note: The applicant must select their Local council from the drop-down menu.

1. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
2. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
3. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
5. Depending on the type of license, a site assessment may be required to evaluate the safety and security of the premises where the explosives will be stored, manufactured, or used.
6. Outline the safety measures the applicant will put in place to prevent accidents and ensure the safe handling of explosives.
7. Ensure that the applicant’s business and activities comply with all relevant safety and security regulations concerning explosives.
8. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
13. The authorities will inspect the applicant’s storage premises to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
14. If the renewal application is approved, the applicant will receive his/her renewed Petroleum Storage License. Ensure that the applicant displays the new license prominently on the premises and adhere to any conditions or requirements outlined in the license.
15. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 25 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
