Procedure

1. To apply for Funeral Support Payment, the applicant can visit the local council or use the respective Link to apply online.
2. The applicant must open the contact link given on this page and select the local council nearby.
3. The applicant must fill in the application form with relevant details as required.
4. Make sure that the applicant gives correct information and attaches the document required for application.
5. A letter regarding the applicant's relationship with the deceased partner must also be given.

Instructions

The payment can be for the funeral of an adult, child or stillborn child. You can't get a payment if:

• there won't be a burial or cremation - for example, you're only having a memorial service or if they donated their body to science
• the hospital is paying for the burial or cremation - for example, after a miscarriage or stillbirth.

Need for the Document

• Funeral Support Payment helps pay for funeral costs if the deceased person lived in Scotland. The applicant can use the payment towards funeral costs for a baby, child or adult. This includes babies who were stillborn. It usually will not cover the full cost of the funeral but it should help pay for some costs. It can be paid either to the applicant or the funeral director who's helping to plan the funeral.
