Apply In-Person:
- The document writer license is issued by the licensing authority, namely, the District Registrar.
- The application form for the Document writer’s license i.e., Form 'A' can be obtained from your nearest Sub-Registrar office. Contact Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application for the Document Writer’s License should be submitted in person or by Agent or sent by registered post to the Sub-Registrar or to whose office he desires to be attached primarily.
- The prescribed fee for the license should be remitted into the State Bank of India or the Treasury under the appropriate departmental head.
- The complete fee details are mentioned below in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The receipt challan should also be attached with the application.
- The applicant must pass “The Document Writer’s Licensing Test” conducted by the District Registrar.
- The details of the exam will be given by the District Registrar in the Pondicherry State Gazette.
- The registrar can accept or reject the application after checking the eligibility criteria and will intimate the candidate.
- If the applicant is eligible, then the document writers license will be approved and issued to the applicant by the respective District Registrar.

The documents required for the document writer application are:
- High School Passing Certificate
- Copy of the Payment Challan Receipt.
- Qualification Certificate along with affidavit.
- Recommendation letter from the Sub-registrar concerned.

EligibilityEdit
To obtain the document writer license,
- The individual should possess a degree in Law of a recognized University in India or its equivalent.
- The individual can be an advocate or pleader practicing before any Court in the Union territory of Pondicherry.
- The individual can be any retired officer of the Judicial or Registration Department of the Union territory of Pondicherry.
- The individual should have passed High School Certificate Exam or its equivalent.
- (Or)
- The individual should have passed the Document Writers Licensing Test.
Educational Qualification:
- The candidate must have passed the S.S.L.C exam or its equivalent.
- This educational qualification applies only for the candidates appearing for the Document Writer Licensing Test.
FeesEdit
The fee structure for granting document writer license is:
- For the Sub-district – Rs.75
- For the entire Union Territory – Rs.100
For renewal:
- For the Sub-district – Rs.15
- For the entire Union Territory – Rs.20
ValidityEdit
- The document writer license is valid for one year. Every year the license must be renewed. The renewal fee is mentioned in the Fee section.

EXAMINATION - The Document Writer’s Licensing Test:
- The applicant must pass “The Document Writer’s Licensing Test” conducted by the District Registrar.
- The exam is conducted by the District Registrar.
- The fee, time, place, and the language of the examination is notified by the District Registrar from time to time in Pondicherry State Gazette.
- The candidates are tested on:
- The Registration Act, 1908 and the rules and the Table of fees thereunder
- The Indian Stamps Act, 1899 and the rules thereunder
- The Transfer of Property Act, 1882
- Conveyancing
- After the exam, the list of selected candidates name will be published in the Pondicherry State Gazette.
- And the license for document writer is provided to the candidate by the district registrar.
