- To get a Life Insurance Agent Certificate of Authority, the applicant will need to approach the Finance and Treasury Board. Here is the contact Link
- The applicant will need to complete the Life Licensing Qualification Program (LLPQ). Find information here Link
- The applicant will need to pass the exam to obtain a life insurance license.
- Complete the following form to register for the exam Link
- Send the completed form to either of the following email addresses [email protected] or [email protected]
- The applicant will need to pay a fee of 66$.
- Once the authorities determine that the applicant is eligible, the form will be forwarded to Durham College.
- Once the applicant passes the exam, they can fill out an individual license application form. Here is the Link
- The applicant will need to have the application form endorsed by an insurance company that is licensed to operate in Nova Scotia.
- If the applicant is a non-resident agent, they will have to provide the Certificate of Authority issued from the jurisdiction where they reside.
- Submit digital copies of the documents under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant will need to make the fee payment, find further information under the “Fees” section of this page.
- Submit the application by mailing it to the address mentioned under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.
- The applicant will need to write exams depending on the level they have applies for. Once they pass this exam, they shall obtain their certificate.

- The applicant must successfully complete any one of these: Fundamentals of Insurance (Provincial Exam), Parts I and II of the General Insurance Essentials, Part I of the CAIB Program (see IBANS or ITAC) or CIP Program Courses C11 and C130.
- The applicant must successfully complete any one of these: Parts I, II and III of the CAIB Program (See IBANS or ITAC) or CIP Program Courses C11, C130 and C131.
- The applicant must successfully complete any one of these: [Parts I, II, III and IV of the CAIB Program (See IBANS or ITAC) or CIP Program Courses C11, C130, C131 and C132.
