Northern Ireland - Apply for a Firearm Certificate or Licence

Procedure[edit]

  1. To apply for a firearms certificate you must submit an application to the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI).
  2. You may apply for the procedure online or in person.
  3. To apply online click this link. Provide all the required information.
  4. You must have the following information to hand before you begin your application:
    1. A valid email address
    2. A valid debit/credit card
    3. A valid mobile phone number
    4. Your GP Practice name
    5. Landowner's details
    6. Target Club details and Club Official's details including email address & mobile number
    7. Other Club details and Club Official's details including email address & mobile number
    8. Image of club membership card
    9. Details of the firearm(s) you wish to apply for
    10. Any previous firearm owner's details (if applicable)
    11. Dealer's business name, email address and image of dealer's note of sale (if applicable)
    12. Your photograph to upload - (please ensure that your photpgraph is similar to the passport standard, i.e. full face without a hat. Photos should be taken against a plain background, and where possible without items visible in the background. Unsuitable images could result in your application being delayed or rejected)
    13. Prior permission to use your two referees (please also ensure that they will be available within the next seven days to complete the referee verification process once you have submitted your application)
    14. Your Referee details. Including their email address, mobile telephone number & date of birth.
      All Referees, including Target Referees must be unique within an application.
    15. Your Parent/Guardian details including their mobile number and email address (if you are under 18 years of age)
  5. You may also apply for a firearms certificate using hard copy application forms. The forms along with all relevant information are available from the PSNI offices.
  6. Hard copies can be obtained by:
    1. calling in person at your local PSNI station
    2. dialling the 101 non emergency number
    3. sending an email request to: [email protected]
  7. Forms are also available on PSNI's website, link is provided under 'Documents to Use' section.

Fees[edit]

  • Grant of a Firearm Certificate: £98.00
  • Variation by Chief Constable: £30.00
  • Variation by Firearms Dealer under Article 11(3) to substitute firearm: £15.00
  • Variation by Firearms Dealer under Article 11(5) to delete firearm: No Fee
  • Duplicate Certificate: £14.00
  • Updated Certificate: £14.00
