Procedure[edit]

1.Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters with all the necessary document which must include a passport photograph and an introductory letter from the appointing body;

2.Submit application with support documents to the immigration office and wait for the passport to be processed;

To apply online visit the Nigerian Immigration Service website https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/pages/welcome and on this page, under the heading Passport, select the prompt ePassport Application Form, this will lead you to http://portal.immigration.gov.ng/passport/epassport. on this page, select the type of passport you would like to apply for and then click on the prompt start application the system to take you through the other steps of application

Instructions[edit]

1.An applicant must have been appointed by government to take on diplomatic work in a foreign country;

2.Be aware that having a diplomatic passport is not guarantee for international travel;

3.Endeavor to obtain proof of appointment before applying for the diplomatic passport;

4.Applicants must be aware that Nigerian Diplomatic missions abroad cannot issue Nigerian Diplomatic Passports;

5.The children and spouse of an appointed diplomat may also apply for Nigerian Diplomatic Passports;

6.Applications must be submitted in person;

7.Before being allowed to enter a foreign country, even with a diplomatic passport, a person must fulfill all the requirements of the foreign country to be visited;

4.Details of duties assigned to the applicant

5.Date of commencement of duties

Need for the Document[edit]

Diplomatic Passports are issued to diplomats of a given country; a Diplomatic Passport in Nigeria has a red cover and is issued to diplomats of the country appointed to carry out official duties for the state in a foreign country. Nigerian passports are issued by the Passport office (Nigeria Immigration Service) and diplomatic missions (Nigerian Embassies / High Commission / Consulate Offices) abroad. However the Nigerian Diplomatic passport is issued and can only be obtained from the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters in Sauka Abuja.



Information which might help[edit]

It is important to note that once a holder of a diplomatic passport is no longer in public office, the passport shall be withdrawn from him / her.



Other uses of the Document/Certificate[edit]

1.The passport allows a person to travel easily to a foreign country to carry out important work for the state;

2.The passport is used as an identification document;

3.It is also used as proof of nationality;

4.It necessitates a country to be represented in a foreign country; .
