Nigeria - Get Marine Insurance Certificate (Port Authority)

Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Marine Insurance Certificate in person, the applicant has to first contact a licensed Marine Insurance company/agent as applicable to his/her convenience.
- The applicant can seek any information from the National Insurance Commission about the Marine Insurance companies, contact details of which can be found in the below contact link
- The applicant can also contact the Nigeria Ports Authority regarding the matter: contact link
- Respective officials will provide information regarding insurance companies and insurance application process.
- Choose one among them and contact that one to know the procedure for obtaining a Marine Insurance.
- Then, make a visit to the office with the documents as mentioned by the official of the particular Insurance Company and also as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Approach the relevant authority and obtain a quote by completing a Marine Insurance application form which will be issued by the authority.
- With respect to information provided, he/she will frame a quote and present it to you in some time.
- Choose a plan of instalment for making the premium payment and submit the required documents as instructed.
- Complete the process by following the instructions and you will have to sign an agreement policy document.
- Carefully go through the terms and conditions and sign the policy with proper knowledge, then hand over it back to the authority.
- Necessary internal processes will take place after that and once all the internal processes are over, you will be issued with a Certificate for reference which will contain your policy particulars with prior intimation.
