Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Water Well Drilling License, the applicant has to approach the Department of Petroleum Resources link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant will be required to provide your fingerprints to the designated officer for verification purposes.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  13. This process might involve site inspections and technical evaluations.
  14. If the application is approved, the applicant will receive a water well drilling license from the regulatory authority. This license authorizes him/her to conduct drilling activities in the specified location.
  15. After obtaining the license, it's important to adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the license. This includes reporting requirements and adherence to environmental and safety standards.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 2 – 3 wees or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible to apply for a water well drilling license in Nigeria, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must be a citizen of Nigeria.
  • The applicant must have a valid business registration certificate from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
  • The applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in water well drilling.
  • The applicant must have a qualified water well driller on your staff.
  • The applicant must have a water well drilling rig that meets the standards set by the Nigerian Water Resources Commission (NWRC).

  • The water well drilling license is valid for 3 years. The applicant must renew his/her license every 3 years.
