Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The relatives, acquaintance of the missing person, shall approach the police station to get information about unidentified dead bodies.
2. Contact link1 AND link2 Please select the respective district from the drop-down list against “Select District”. In the resulting page, select the respective option from the drop-down list against “Useful Links” on the top right corner for details.
3. Please visit the respective office.
4. Meet the respective authority at the office and consult with them about the process to get information about unidentified dead bodies.
5. As advised, please write an application on a plain A4 sheet or collect the form (if any) from the concerned authority.
6. Once the complaint is ready, please attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
7. This request will be processed further. As the required details will be digitally available, the authorities will try to find the matching details from the database.
8. This complaint or request can be processed immediately. Based on the matching data, the information recorded can be provided.
9. In case the matching data is not availed, the application will be recorded in the office to cross-check for any matching data in near future.
10. The whole process can be completed in same day or as per the timeline provided by the authorities.

2. The applicant can make a search in 3 different types

Type 1: Browse All

• In this type the option will show a complete list of un-identified dead bodies; reverse sorted on date (recent instance first); split into numerous pages showing instances per page. link

Type 2: Filter

• In this type Filter option can be used to select all the records pertaining to a particular State, District or Police Station; reverse sorted on date (recent instance first). link

Type 3: Search

• This option presents a very flexible way to extract required information from the central databank by providing available information about the Un-identified Dead Bodies/Persons. link

Required Documents

• A written complaint (if the complaint form is available in the police station, then make use of it)
• Applicant’s proof of address (Ration card / Bank pass book / Telephone bill / Aadhaar card)
• Applicant’s proof of identity (Voter ID / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence)
• Photo of the missing person (the latest one before missing)
• Aadhaar card
• Additional documents (if any)

• Apart from the above documents, authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

• This service is offered free of cost. But, the applicant has to pay the charges (if any) as per authorities quote while applying.

Instructions

• A dead body should only be released when identification is certain.
• Don’t forget to take all the originals of the document along with a copy for filing the complaint.
• Incomplete application will be rejected.
• Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
• Please find the missing persons squad/desk in police stations for clarification.

• This process is helpful for the relatives, acquaintance of the missing person to clarify if there is any matching person identity is found.

Information which might help

• While registering a complaint about a missing person, the complainant should clearly mention the date and the probable time the victim was missing. Also, the details of the missing person including name, parentage, age, height, complexion, sex, clothes worn and any special mark of identification etc.
• Apart from making a complaint, the complainant shall also publish an advertisement in a local newspaper about such person mentioning his particulars and identification marks, along with his/her photograph.
• Nowadays, social media platforms and radio/FM can also be useful to find such person.
