Mozambique - Register for a Birth
ProcedureEdit
1.You start by identifying a nearby registration centre this is any include civil registration conservatories / district office or the administrative post;
2.If the child is born in hospital go with the hospital birth certificate or where a child is not born in hospital go with identification documents of both parents to the identified registration centre. For children not born hospital you can go to a nearby hospital and obtain an immunization document for the child and thereafter go with it to the registration centre;
3.At the registration centre present the necessary documents to registration officer for recording. Information about the child is got from the submitted documents and entered into the birth register; where no documents giving information about the child are presented, the registration officer asks question of which you shall be required to answer;
4.After data has been entered into the register, the registration officer fills in a special form known as Boletim de nascimento, issued to you as proof of registration and which is referred to as a birth certificate.

1.Applicants must be aware that not registering birth of a child is a violation of a childs human right to an identity;
2.It is an obligation for the parents to report birth of a new born;
3.Registration should not go beyond thirty (30) days from date of birth;
4.Late registration may be done at a fee;

5.Particulars of both parents of the new born (names and address, nationality of both parents, occupation of both parents and dates of Birth of both parents)

Need for the DocumentEdit
Birth registration is the official and permanent recording of the birth of a child by the State. In Mozambique, the National Directorate of the Registries and Notary (Direco Nacional de Registos e Notariado, DNRN) under administers civil registration which includes birth registration. The Directorate has birth registration offices at lower levels which include civil registration conservatories, hospital posts, district office or the administrative posts and mobile brigades.

1.It is important for parents to note that it is their responsibility to register new born children and that non registration is a breaching a childs right to an identity. Children should be aware that any child who is not registered may not be able to access some social services in Mozambique in future when he / she grows up for instance school enrollment, medical services and parents must note that children whose births were not registered may be subjected to age related abuses in future for instance child labour, early marriages and sexual harassment among others

1.Registering a child at birth gives him / her an identity and recognition by the state;
2.With a birth certificate, a child is able to access a number of public services;
3.It proves age of a child;
4.A birth certificate shows true names of child and parents;
5.It can be used as proof of nationality as it indicates place of birth;
6.A birth certificate proves relationship between child and parent(s)
7.It is used in getting important documents like national identity cards;
8.It is used in processes of acquiring employment;
9.Through registration data, the government can easily manage population data
10.With a birth certificate, a child is protected against child labour, under age marriage and any other related abuses;
