Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Once the applicant has the sandalwood possession permit (licence), shall move the sandalwood if required and get the transit permit or way permit from the first check post. Please visit your respective area district forest officer / divisional forest officer / the authority concerned having the jurisdiction over the area to know the details.

3. Please visit the respective office and consult with the designated authority. The authority will provide the details about the process. Please collect the application form if provided, or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
4. As per norms, the original possession permit should accompany the vehicle carrying goods (sandalwood), the duplicate should be sent to the respective forest department authority within 48 hours of issue of permit and the triplicate retained in the permit book.
5. Please complete the application form. Attach all the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page, along with the permit obtained for possession of sandalwood.
6. Make sure that the required amount for fees or charges in hand as per acceptable mode.

8. Once the vehicle reaches the first check post, please submit the document set to the counter authority.
9. It is mandatory that all the Sandalwood in transit shall be produced for examination at the first checking station in the district between the hours of 6 A.M and 6 P.M or as per the time limit of the respective area and if such sandalwood arrives at the first checking station after 6 p.m. the officer in charge of such checking station may detain it till next day for examination.
10. The checking will be carried out to make sure that the sandalwood actually comes from the place and is of the kind stated in the permit. Also, authorities will make sure that the quantity is not in excess of the quantity specified therein the permit.
11. Once the verification and checking is satisfactory, the way permit (transit permit) will be sanctioned, duly noting the vehicle number carrying the sandalwood.
12. The check post authority will retain the permit and give in exchange a way permit (transit permit).
13. The way permit (transit permit) shall be produced and endorsed at all subsequent checking stations.
14. The way permit (transit permit) can be obtained on the same day or the next day.

Note:

• The respective authority of the forest department of the host state who issues a pass (transit permit) for the transport of sandalwood into or outside the State shall intimate the other state respective authority of the forests department about the transit of sandalwood before it reach its destination along with a copy of the pass.

Eligibility

Instructions

• The way pass (transit permit) shall be in the possession of the person in charge of the sandalwood in transit.
• Every way pass (transit permit) shall be produced for examination when demanded by any Revenue, Police or Forest Officer.
• No sandalwood shall be transported into the State by road or water beyond the first check post without having the pass stamped at the respective first check post.
• In the case of sandalwood purchased at the Government sales depot in the other states and imported into the native State, the permit shall be that issued by the Government of the respective State or any authority in that host State responsible for the sale of sandalwood in that State and such permit shall be valid only for transport of sandalwood to the destination specified therein.
• Any change of place of storage should be notified.
• The licence holder should maintain a stock register showing the receipt issued and balance of sandalwood and all its by-products including sandalwood at the premises.
• Do not submit fake documents as proof to get the permit.
• Incomplete application will not be accepted.
• Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.

Need for the Document

• No person shall transport sandalwood into, within or outside the respective state except in accordance with a pass (transit permit) issued.
• It is a punishable offence to transport sandalwood without such pass (transit permit).
