Apply In-Person

  1. Applicants should visit the Prime Minister's Office in Mauritius or the Mauritius embassy/consulate office abroad and collect the application form or download it via the prime minister’s website Link (Form located under service option of the menu bar > Citizenship > search for the “Application form for Renunciation of Nationality or Citizenship of Mauritius”) or use the link below to download Link (Application form)
  2. Please note, the declaration of renunciation of citizenship (application form) has to be subscribed in Mauritius, in the presence of a Judge or the Master & Registrar of the Supreme Court or a District Magistrate and if abroad, before a representative of the High Commission/Consulate of Mauritius prior to submission.
  3. Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents (listed below) to the Secretary for Home Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office in Mauritius or at Mauritius embassy/consulate office if abroad.
  4. If the content of your application is not accurately filled or there are missing documents, your application will not be accepted and will be issued back, for correction.
  5. You will be notified of the outcome of your application by letter that the renunciation has been registered and that you are no longer a citizen of Mauritius as from that date.
  6. Re-visit the Prime Minister's Office or the Mauritius embassy/consulate office with the letter and claim your certificate of Renunciation of Mauritius Citizenship.

Note:

  1. The document/certificate issued to confirm renunciation should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • A recent copy of the birth certificate of applicant.
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Photocopy of first five pages of applicant's passport.
  • Documentary evidence to the effect that applicant has or shall be granted a foreign citizenship upon renunciation of the Mauritian Citizenship.


NOTE:

  • The above documents should be submitted in original and two photocopies should accompany the application (clean and legible copies on A4 format)
  • Any change of name should be made executory in Mauritius

ValidityEdit

  • Certificate of Renunciation of Mauritius Citizenship is valid forever unless the holder wishes to recant his/her oath for denouncing the Mauritius Citizenship.

Need for the DocumentEdit

​Under section 14 (1) of the Mauritius Citizenship Act, a citizen of Mauritius, who is also a national of a foreign country, may make a declaration of renunciation of his/her citizenship of Mauritius provided the declaration is made and approved by the prime minister.
