Apply In-Person

  1. Visit any Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in your location with all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section below.
  2. Approach the service desk and submit your request for Tax registration verbally to the MRA official
  3. The official will issue you the registration form and instruct you on how to fill the form if you don’t understand
  4. Fill the application form accordingly and attach all the required documents to it then submit it to the MRA official for verification
  5. The officer will check your application and if it is correct, it will be processed and you will be registered for tax
  6. Finally the MRA system will generate your unique Tax Identification Number which you will be given at the MRA office.

Apply Online

  1. Start by creating an online account through this procedure:
  2. Visit the MRA website Link
  3. Msonkho online banner with two buttons, Taxpayer Login  and TIN Application, will appear on the right side of the page
  4. Click on the TIN Application and you will be directed to a new page requiring username and password
  5. Click on Register Now to get a username and a password
  6. Fill the form on the Taxpayer Portal Registration  uploading the required identification document and submit
  7. Check your email inbox for a notification from Msonkho Online, you may need to check your junk email or spam folder as the notification may end up there if not in the inbox
  8. Click on the confirmation link sent to your email to activate your account
  9. Use the username and password you created to login through the portal by clicking on the Taxpayer Login
  10. Once you have logged in to your account, star filling the required details to complete your application.
  11. Fill all the page with the correct information and press on the Next to processed to the another page
  12. At the summary page, review your application and you are satisfied with it click on the Submit button at the bottom of the Summary tab to send the application for processing. The record will close and a successful submission will send an informative email with an Application Reference Number (ARN) to your mail address
  13. The application for TIN will therefore be verified and all documents cross-checked. #Upon verification and to the satisfaction of the Approving Officer, the TIN application will be approved and you will be duly registered and assigned a TIN.

  • The tax law requires owners of businesses in the case of individuals, and companies to register for tax purposes regardless of the size of the business or location. Registration for taxes is free and can be done at any nearest Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) office. MRA issues a Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN) on registration that should be used on any correspondence with the Authority.
