  1. Go to any Motor Vehicle Branch Office or Mobile Unit sites
  2. Bring all necessary documents: proof of identification, proof of residency, and proof of legal presence.
  3. Complete and submit an application along with all the required documents.
  4. Applicants may be required to have an eye test.
  5. Pay the appropriate fee.

Things you will need to renew your driver's license:

  • Document(s) showing proof of your physical address in Maine;
  • Document(s) proving you are a US Citizen or are in the country legally (Legal Presence);
  • If your social security number is not on file with the Secretary of State, you must provide your social security number. If you believe you do not qualify for a social security number, you must present an unexpired immigration document, such as an I-94, or a written statement from the Social Security Administration to help us determine your ineligibility.

  • Class C and Motorcycle Permit Examination (Written Test): $10.00
  • Class A, B & C Commercial Driver's License Examination: $35.00
  • Each Endorsement: $10.00


Initial License and Renewal Fees:

  • Class C Photo License Under Age 65 (6 year license): $30.00
  • Commercial Photo License Under Age 65 (effective October 1, 2003 5 year license): $34.00
  • Class C Photo License Age 65 or older (4 year license): $21.00
  • Commercial Photo License Age 65 or older (4 year license): $28.00

You can renew your driver's license by going to any of the motor vehicle branch offices or mobile unit sites.
