Apply In-Person:

  1. To get into a Court marriage in person, the applicant has to first visit the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate office or Collector office of the state/district. The address and contact details of the head office can be found on the following Link. link
  2. Visit the office and obtain a form for a Notice for Marriage from the relevant department.
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. Complete the notice form as required with appropriate details and submit it with the required documents to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
  5. Notice should be submitted to the SDM of the District or State/Marriage Registrar. Either one of the parties must be a resident of the same state (at least for the last one month)
  6. The notice must be given in the newspaper as well.
  7. A marriage Notice is published or put up by the SDM.
  8. After 30 days from the date of notice submission, the marriage must be solemnized. However, it can only take place if there is no objection by any person within these 30 days.
  9. Marriage will only be solemnized at the Marriage Registrar's office.
  10. Both parties along with 3 witnesses must be present in the Marriage registrar’s office on the date of registration

EligibilityEdit

  • Any couple in Maharashtra, who wish to enter in a legal marriage, can apply.
  • Any couple, in which any one of them is a non-citizen, are eligible.
  • People interested in special marriages (i.e.) marrying persons from religions other than theirs, can apply.
  • The male spouse should be above 21 years of age and the female should be above 18 years of age.

InstructionsEdit

  • Court marriages can be solemnized on any day from Monday to Saturday and the time taken for the execution of the process varies from state to state.
  • The witnesses for the marriage are a necessity and it is important that there should be at least three Indian witnesses.
  • In case of marriages with non-citizens, it is necessary that the law of foreign spouse’s nation should not contradict Indian law.
