Apply In-Person:
- The complainant, who already registered a complaint about a missing person, shall file another complaint in the concerned police station asking for the information/details of further developments in the case since the registration of the complaint. Also, a RTI can be filed to keep a check on the efforts being made to find the missing person.

- Please visit the respective office.
- Meet the respective authority at the office and collect the complaint form (if any) from the concerned authority or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
- Once the complaint is ready, please attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
- After receiving the complaint, authorities will check the complaint and documents. If all are in place, the complaint will be accepted.
- Authorities will make entries about this complaint in the manual record or electronically using the computer.
- The complaint will be processed further. The ”SMS” triggered update on complaint status will be sent to the complainant’s mobile or complainant gets a call from the police station about the complaint status.
- The concerned authorities will scrutinize the records and “General Station Diary (GD)” followed by an internal inquiry. Once the required information on the investigation is ascertained, a report will be generated.
- Also, the details of cross-reference made with the records of the Missing Persons Bureau, then in the State Crime Records Bureau, and the Missing Persons Wing at the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in New Delhi will be recorded.
- The ‘NCRB’, under the ‘TALASH’ Information System, maintains a national level database of missing persons under different categories. The information on cross-reference of the details made with the database will also be included.
- Once the processing is over, the report will be submitted to the respective signing authority.
- The signing authority will endorse the report with his/her seal after evaluation.
- The status will be conveyed to the complainant through an SMS or through phone call.
- The complainant shall visit the concerned police station to get the report.

- Applicant’s proof of address (Ration card / Bank pass book / Telephone bill / Aadhaar card)
- Applicant’s proof of identity (Voter ID / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence)
- FIR copy for the initial missing complaint registered or any document evidencing the registration of earlier complaint about the missing person.

- Those who have already registered a missing person complaint with a police station are eligible to file another complaint/application, in addition to the complaint, in the concerned police station.
- The complainant should provide valid FIR or any other document that the police station acknowledged for the registration of complaint.

- Don’t forget to take all the originals of the document along with a copy for filing the complaint.
- Incomplete application will be rejected.
- Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
- Please find the missing persons squad/desk in police stations.
- As per “Bachpan Bachao Andolan” that the complaint can also be filed with the help of an SMS as well. Once this is done, preliminary verification of the caller will be done, and the information will be added to the general diary and FIR.
