Madhya Pradesh - Obtain a Domicile or Residence Certificate

Apply In-Person

  1. Applicant must visit Subdivisional Officer, Revenue/thasildhar/assistant thasildhar/naib thasildhar to apply in person with the documents specified under required documents session. Link for contact : Madhya Pradesh please select the district to reach respective district portal for contact details.
  2. Please go to the respective office. Submit the completed application obtained from office or can be downloaded from the link below: Application please select local residence certificate option on the bottom left box scroll and select click to download form provided on the top right corner of the page. Applicant shall fill it online and take printout or can download to fill it for applying.
  3. Authorities after checking the attached documents and details submitted will make entries and provide you record number for reference.
  4. This application will be verified by the circle officer / Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and Revenue Inspector (RI).
  5. There will be a ground level verification and scrutiny of the documents and details provided.
  6. Once the verification is over, these officials will submit their report to the respective authority/thasildhar to decide and issue the Certificate to the applicant.
  7. Applicant will get the certificate in 15 days after due verification.

Note: Apart from the mentioned required documents, applicant has to provide any additional information/document as asked by the respective authorities while applying. Fee requirement is also to be paid as authorities quote. Applicant may be asked to prove his stay in the state for a particular period(10 years/15 years etc).

Through MPonline kiosk

  1. Applicant has to go to the respective kiosk with required documents to apply in person.

  3. Please submit the complete application form obtained from centre or the one downloaded along with required documents and follow the guidelines to submit. If required please pay as advised.
  4. Operator at the kiosk will process the request and issue a transaction slip. Keep it safe for future reference.
  5. Applicant will get the status on registered mobile number.
  6. Certificate will be issued as per notification.

Apply Online

  1. Use the following link to reach online portal. Link: Online Portal
  2. In the given page, please select “Citizen Login” option which can be found on the menu bar of the homepage.
  3. User has to hit proceed for the pop up information to reach next page.
  4. Here, please select local resident certificate tab from the list services provided to get the login page.
  5. In the login page user shall use base/mobile number and complete the page prompt to login.
  6. Once login, user will be provided with online applying page. Please enter the required details and then upload required documents, payment gateway and acknowledgement sessions to apply online by using respective tabs.
  7. Please keep the acknowledgement for future reference.
  8. This application will be processed by the respective department as per how it will be processed in person.
  9. Applicant will get notification about the status on his registered mobile number provided while applying.
  10. Applicant can check the status through the online portal using the application number obtained while applying online. Once it is ready, it can be printed.

  • Identity proof.
  • Self declaration from the applicant.
  • Residential Proof: Residential Certificate issued by Local administration office/ Aadhar card / Passport / Driving License / Ration Card / Govt. Id card / Defence ID Card / PAN Card.
  • Age proof (birth certificate / school certificate)
  • Income Proof: Salary certificate, Income proof from competent authority, income tax return acknowledgement.
  • Applicant passport size photograph.
  • 2 different Gazette Officers certification (as per requirement)
  • Education records duly signed
  • Aadhaar card
  • Land revenue receipt (in case of farmer if available).
  • Affix stamp as advised by authorities if required.

  • The following are the eligibility criteria to obtain a local certificate from the State Government:
    • Any person who is a resident of the state.
    • Women not initially belonging to the state, but married to a permanent resident of the state.


  • Authorities will provide fee details.
  • During online payment fee details will be displayed


The validity period of this certificate has been enhanced to life long as per GO (provided the individual residence is not changed)

Concerned Authority
The Tehsildar, Additional Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar of the concerned area are authorised to issue the certificate.

Domicile Certificate can be made only in one State/UT. Obtaining Domicile Certificate from more than one State/UT is an offence.

Need for the Document[edit]

  • A Domicile/Residence Certificate is generally issued to prove that the person bearing the Certificate is a Domicile/Resident of the State/UT by which the Certificate is being issued. This Certificate is required as proof of residence to avail Domicile/Resident Quotas in educational institutions and in the Government Service, as also in case of jobs where local residents are preferred.
  • This certificate is used for many other purpose including Passport, Visa etc.;,
