ProcedureEdit

  1. Submit all the required documents to the civil clerk. A link to contact information for municipalities in Kosovo is provided under "Office Locations & Contacts."
  2. Wait for the advice regarding when your application will be processed.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Valid identification: Identity Card, military card, passport, driving license
  • An electricity, phone, waste or tax bill with address for year 2003/2004 or,
  • House-apartment contract and
  • Identity card issued by UNMIK, on whose name is the bill or contract.
  • Birth certificate and UNMIK ID for the close member of the family (spouse, children, father, mother, brother, sister).
  • Civil registration of persons born before year 1940:
    • Birth certificate or certificate of marriage,
    • Two close members of family, who possess birth certificates and licenses issued by UNMIK,
    • An electricity bill for year 2003/2004 (water, phone, electricity, waste, tax bill, or house or apartment contract),
    • ID issued by UNMIK of the person on whose name the bill is.
  • Civil Registration of persons born after year 1970:
    • Birth certificate,
    • The presence of both parents with IDs issued by UNMIK is obligatory,
    • One of the bills for year 2003/2004 (electricity, phone, water, waste, tax bill, or house or apartment contract),
    • UNMIK license of the person on whose name the bill is.
  • Additional requirements (applicants outside Kosovo):
    • Proof of civil status
    • Evidence that the applicant owns real estate in Kosovo
    • For students: Proof that the student attends the school
    • Identity card/passport

EligibilityEdit

Individuals who may register as habitual residents:

  • Persons born in Kosovo, or those who have a parent from Kosovo,
  • Persons who can prove that they had continuously lived in Kosovo for at least five (5) years,
  • Those who according to the civil clerk, were forced to leave Kosovo and for that reason were not able to meet the residency requirement (lived in Kosovo continuously for the past 5 years)
  • Other dependent children of persons, who are not eligible for registration, children of 18 years of age or 23 years of age, but who can prove that they are regular attendants of an independent educational institution.


Civil Registration of persons currently living outside Kosovo:

  • Persons, who live abroad and who are now present in Kosovo, are eligible to register in the Municipal Center for Civil Registration as regular inhabitant of Kosovo, if:
    • At the time of application for registration, they are physically present in the Center for Civil Registration,
    • It is certified that he/she intends to return to Kosovo,
  • Other requirements:
    • The applicant has a strong family bond in Kosovo and the whole family, or a part of his/her family lives in Kosovo. Family includes grandparents, parents, spouses, brothers, sisters and nephews and nieces. The applicant will need to submit at least one document about his civil status,
    • The applicant owns a private real estate in Kosovo. Applicants will be asked to present document as proof that he/she owns the property.
    • The applicant is student/pupil in one of the educational institutions in Kosovo. Applicant will need to submit a certificate for current school attendance,
  • The applicant will need to submit proof of identity: Identity card/passport or another document.
