  1. Gather all necessary documents needed in registration.
  2. Application forms can be obtain from the registrar's office.
  3. Complete the application form and submit it along all other required documents.

Required DocumentsEdit

If the birth occurred in a hospital or a health facility:

  • Completed application form to register the child's birth
  • Birth report issued by the public or private health institution where the it occurred.
  • Marriage certificate of parents
  • Admission of Paternity, if the child was born out of wedlock.
  • Photocopies of the child's parents identifications
  • For abandoned children: proof of guardianship


If the birth occurred outside a hospital or a health facility:

  • Completed application form to register the child's birth
  • Confirmation of the health institution for vaccinations
  • Marriage certificate of parents
  • Admission of Paternity, if the child was born out of wedlock
  • Statement of at least two witnesses who assisted during birth or have knowledge of the child's birth outside the hospital or the health facility
  • Photocopies of the child's parents identifications


If the child was born outside the territory of Kosovo:

  • Completed application form to register the child's birth
  • International birth certificate or equivalent issued by the country of birth
  • Marriage certificate of parents
  • Admission of Paternity, if the child was born out of wedlock
  • Photocopies of the child's parents identifications

Birth registrations are conducted in municipal assemblies' respective offices where the child was born, this is also where the birth certificate will be issued.

Either of the child's parents can apply for the birth register if the parents are married, in cases where the parents are not married, both of them must be present to register the child's birth.



Required InformationEdit

To register the child's birth, it is necessary to indicate the child's name and surname, and whether the surname is different from that of the father's.



Need for the DocumentEdit

A Birth Certificate states the name and sex of a person, it also indicate the time and place of birth, it is issued after you have registered the birth of a child. A copy of the birth certificate is often necessary when you apply for administrative procedures, such as civil marriage or getting a passport.
