Apply In-Person :
- To renew your vehicle registration certificate in Kerala the applicant has to approach the RTO office of his area.

- Application form can be downloaded using the following link: Form

- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
- The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for this procedure
- Make sure you have completed application form 25. Application form can be obtained from the following link : Form 25
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices
- Submit the form with all the documents to the counter. The person will verify the form and mark the fees to be paid
- Pay the fees at the cash counter
- Produce the vehicle for inspection.
- Once the inspection is through, the inspector will verify the engine and chassis numbers
- You will get an Acknowledgement slip with which can you can collect the updated documents next day or the day mentioned in the slip
Apply online:
- Visit the following portal: portal.
- Now select the state from the drop down menu.
- After selecting the state the applicant will be redirected to the Vahan Parivahan website.
- On the new page on the left side there is a box to select state and RTO, click on proceed.
- Select online services to “Apply for Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Hypothecation [Addition/Continuation/Termination], Duplicate RC]”.
- Next select Application for New Certificate > Enter Chassis number > Enter Mobile Number > Click Generate OTP. #Now select the desired option.
- Fill in all the details and pay the application fees.
- Note the application number and visit the nearest RTO for details regarding date, time, and venue for vehicle inspection. Appear at the given date and time for getting the vehicle inspected to get the license.
Apply through Centres:
- To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
- Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
- The operator will process the application online.
- On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
- The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
- If verified, the renewed certificate will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying in a stipulated period of time.

ValidityEdit
- In case of non-transport vehicles like two wheelers and cars, the registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of first registration and it is renewed after every five subsequent years.
- In case of transport vehicles like goods and passenger carriers the registration certificate is valid till certificate of fitness is valid.
- The Non-Transport Category vehicle is renewed for 5 years.
- The Transport Category Vehicle is renewed for 1 year.
- Renewal should be made not more than 60 days before the date of its expiry.

No person shall drive any Motor Vehicle and no owner of Motor Vehicle shall cause or permit the vehicle to be driven in any public place or any other place, unless the vehicle is registered in accordance with Chapter 4 of IMV Act 1988.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
- As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, all vehicles either transport or non-transport should renew their registration of vehicle after a period of time as allowed
- For Non-transport type vehicle like car, bike etc. need to be renewed after 15 years and 5 years afterwards
- For transport type vehicles like bus the renewal is required for every year, as long as it is considered road worthy by the department.

- While applying - Documents can be made in duplicate if the vehicle is held under an agreement of Hire-purchase / Lease / Hypothecation and Duplicate copy with the endorsement of the Registering Authority to be returned to the Financier simultaneously on Registration of motor vehicle.
- Make sure all lights and horn are in good condition. Also, the vehicle should look neat and clean
