Procedure

To provide financial support to the poor widows of India, the widow pension scheme was introduced in India. A widow whose household is below the poverty line is eligible to get the benefits of pension scheme.
Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for Widow Pension,you have to approach the concerned Grama Panchayat /Municipality /Corporation Secretary.

3. Get the application form from the concerned officer or write it on an A4 sheet.
4. Fill the application form with necessary details.
5. Attach all the Required Documents as mentioned in the Required Documents section along with the form and submit it to the Directorate of Social Welfare.
6. Pay the appropriate fees as per authorities quote.
7. You will be given an acknowledgement keep it safe for future reference.
8. Now the authorities will verify your application and validate the submitted documents.
9. After all the verification they will credit your pension amount each month to your bank account.

Apply In-Person for Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS):

1. To apply for Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme ,visit the nearest  GramaPanchayat /Municipality /Corporation Secretary.

3. Get the application form from the Concerned Officer or write it on an A4 sheet.
4. Fill the application form with all the necessary details.
5. Attach all the Required Documents as mentioned in the Required Documents section along with the form and submit it to the concerned officer in the Gram Panchayat /Municipality.
6. Pay the appropriate fees as per authorities quote.
7. The beneficiary selection should be conducted within one month of the completion of the enquiry.
8. The Beneficiary list will be send to the district collector or the officer appointed by the District Collector.
9. The request for beneficiary selection should be given to the District collector or the officer appointed by the collector within one month of the execution of the order and the action has to be taken within one month of submission of the appeal.

• Death Certificate of Husband
• BPL Status Certificate (verifiable through Ration card)
• Aadhaar Card
•  Any of the following documents, namely:
  • Voters’ ID Card issued by Election Commission of India
  • Ration Card
  • Bank Passbook with Photo (Kisan Photo Passbook also valid)
  • PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • MGNREGA Card

Eligibility

Criteria for Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme

• Applicant should be a widow/Divorced.
• Applicant should not be a remarried person.
• No person shall be eligible for the pension, if the person is in receipt of any other Social Welfare pensions.
• No person shall be eligible for the pension, if the person applied for any Social Welfare pensions.
• No one of their relations to look after him/her.
• No person shall be eligible if he/she resorts to habitual begging.
• Applicant is not eligible if the person is admitted to a poor home.
• Having a family annual income of or less than Rs.100000/-.
• Applied at the local body where the person is residing.
• Applicant must be a destitute.

Eligibility to apply for Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS):

• The applicant must be from BPL category (with a valid BPL id)
• The applicant must be a widow.
• The applicant must be above 40 years of age.
•  An amount of Rs 300/- is payable to such pensioners aged between 40-79 years.
• After attaining the age of 80 years, the beneficiary will get Rs 500 per month.

Validity

• It is valid forever.
