Kenya - Renew Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) Practice License (Post Basic)

Procedure[edit]

  • Applications to renew a Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) practice license are done online.

Apply Online

  1. A Kenya Enrolled Midwife (KEM) can renew their Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) Practice License online by visiting the Nursing Councils of Kenya Online Services Portal through the following link: NCK Online Service Portal
  2. Log into theNCK 'Online Service Portal using your “Username or Email address” and your password.
  3. Upon entering your accounts’ homepage, click on the “Renewals” tab in the menu on the left pane to enter the next page.
  4. On the Retention page , click on the “Make Retention Application” button to enter the next page where you are required to provide information for your application.
  5. Please provide required information for licensing. These include:-
    • Email
    • Mobile
    • Practice type (Select Clinical or Non-Clinical )
    • Area of practice (Select Others)
    • Area of specialty (Select Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse -Post Basic)
    • Work Station Type
    • Work Station /Facility
    • Select Employer.
    • Workstation /Facility
  6. Confirm that all the information you have given is correct and click on the “Apply for Renewal ” button.
    • This will cause an invoice for payment of the renewal application fees to be generated.
  7. On the Invoice page click on the “Click to Pay Now” button to pay for the Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) Practice License
    • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The Payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the licensing fees to be paid is given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. Upon making the application payment, a payment receipt and the Renewed Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse Practice License will be generated online.
    • Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find copies of the receipt and license ready to be printed.
  9. Click on the “Download Receipt” button and the “Download License” button to download the payment receipt and Renews Kenya Enrolled Midwife Practice License respectively.
    • Print the receipt and license and keep them for reference.

Eligibility[edit]

  • A Licensed Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) in Kenya is eligible to make a renewal application for a Kenya Enrolled Nurse Practice License.
  • The practitioner should have attained the required Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Points for renewal.

  • The license renewal fee is Kshs. 1,500

  • The license validity is one year.

Need for the Document[edit]

  • A Kenya Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (KRAEN) needs a practice license in order to practice nursing in Kenya. It is an offence to practice nursing in Kenya without being licensed with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • One needs to have a valid license at all times to practice in Kenya.

Failure to obtain the necessary documentations constitutes an offence under the Nurse Act Cap 257.   • Accident and Emergency Nurses treat patients who are suffering from trauma, injury or severe medical conditions and require urgent treatment. Since these specialists work in crisis situations, they must be able to quickly identify the best way to stabilize patients and minimize pain.
  • Accident and Emergency Nurses have a range of expertise demonstrated across a range of knowledge and skills which they acquire through Continuous Professional Development. This is reflected within their roles and responsibilities in Emergency Departments (ED) when they often have to work autonomously or in close partnership with other health professionals within the ED team to make diagnosis or take urgent decisions.
  • Accident and Emergency Nurses are most frequently employed in hospital emergency departments, although they may also work in urgent care centers, sports arenas, and on medical transport aircraft and ground ambulances.
