Procedure

An Electrical Contractor Business License is a legal authorization that permits individuals or companies to provide electrical contracting services within a specific jurisdiction, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. Apply Online

1. Visit our website: Link then click on the “online services” option and then select “Licence Application” on the drop menu.
2. Login to your business account using your username and password.
3. Once successfully login go to the “License Management” option on the menu bar and click on “My Licenses” on the extended menu.
4. View the license you want to renew by clicking the “View Licence” tab.
5. Proceed to apply for the renewal of your license by clicking the “Resume Renewal” tab. Complete your profile if there is any missing data, then click the “Next” tab.
6. For each of the listed company required documents requested in the system, do the following:
7. Click on the Choose Files button. Go to where the document is saved, select it, and then click the “Open” tab.
8. Once you have browsed and selected all the required Files, click on the “Upload Files” tab.
9. Proceed to pay the renewal fee by choosing either the Mpesa or Bank deposit payment option, then click the “save the payment” tab and enter the confirmation code.
10. For the M-Pesa payment option follow the instructions displayed on the screen to make the payment
11. Click on the “Submit” tab to submit your renewal application for review by the Energy Regulatory Commission licensing department.
12. Once you submit your license renewal application, you will receive an email confirming the submission of the application.
13. You can see the status of the application by signing in to your EPRA account, going to License Management, and clicking on “Application History”.
14. The license application shall be processed within 30 days from the date of submission.
15. The application shall be reviewed for material completeness before approval.
16. Once approved, the licensee shall download the license from their online account by:

18. Go to license management then
19. Go to My License, then view License.
20. Download the license using the download license link provided.

Required Documents

• Certificate of incorporation/ Business registration certificate.
• Valid trading license/ Single Business permit.
• Proof of ownership of a permanent office i.e. title deed, certificate of lease, lease agreement, succession documents.
• Valid KRA Tax Compliance Certificate.
• CR12 is not older than 1 year.
• Copies of national ID for all Kenyan directors that appear on the CR12 and/or copies of passports and work permits for all foreign directors.
• Copy of electrician license
• Signed and notarized electrical worker consent letter in the form provided by the EPRA. Downloadable via the EPRA website:

Eligibility

• Registered companies/ businesses in possession of a valid/ expired Electrical Contractor Business License issued by the EPRA.

Fees

The following annual renewal payments are applicable for each license renewal application:

• Class A1: KES. 5000.00
• Class A2: KES. 5000.00
• Class B: KES. 3000.00
• Class C1: KES. 2000.00
• Class C2: KES. 1000.00

Note: Any renewal done later than the 31st of March of every year attracts penalty charges equivalent to 50% of the renewal amount.

Validity

• All licenses expire by 31st December of every year and must be renewed no later than 31st of March of the following year.
• A delay in renewal will attract a penalty equivalent to 50% of the renewal amount.

Processing Time

• The processing time takes a maximum of 30 days from the date of successful submission of the application to the response either by grant or deferral of a license.
