Kenya - Obtain a Dependent Pass

- This pass is issued to a person whose spouse, parent, or guardian is lawfully entitled to enter Kenya. It gives the holder entitlements to freely enter and residing Kenya.
Apply Online
Step1: Create a login account within the Government of Kenya Single Sign On portal
- For first-time users, applicants are required to create an account with the eCitizen Portal either as a citizen or foreigner.
- Enter your ID Number and First name as it appears on your ID for Citizens or foreigner certificate for Foreigners.
- Enter your email address and password and confirm your password.
- A confirmation link will be sent to your email address, click on the link to verify your email address.
- Enter your mobile phone number and a verification code will be sent to the number you.
- Enter the verification code send to your mobile phone on the next screen and click on verify.
- Skip or Upload your photo to complete the registration process.
Step 2: Login eFNS portal and file the application
- Log in using the account you have created above to access eFNS portal by clicking the Directorate of Immigration Services (New Applications) option located on the homepage.
- Under the Submit application tab click on “Submit New Applications”.
- This will direct you to the next page where you should make your next selection. Under the Permit and Passes Service Section, click on the “Apply Now” hyperlink in the Permit Issuance/ Renewal Tab.
- select the “Dependant Pass” tab, This will direct you to the next page; here applicants should read the instructions carefully, and click on the “Learn More” button.
- This will direct you to the next page; where you are to read the instructions carefully, make sure you have all the requirements to make the application, and then click on the “Apply Now” button which will direct you to the online Application Form 28 - Dependant Pass.
- Fill in the online application form with all the required details accordingly and upload supporting documents as listed on the site before clicking on the “Save &Proceed” Button. So as to finalize the application process.
- Applicants will be directed to the next page where they can print their application form and submit it to any of the immigration offices or embassy for processing.
Step 3: Make security bond payment
- A security bond of KES 100,000 will also be required to be made with your bank or insurance company (to be done once the pass is approved). The Security Bond Form The Security Bond Form will be required by your bank/insurance company. Once the bond is issued, the stamped copy/receipt will then be submitted to Immigration along with the application fee.
Step 4: Submission and processing of the application.
- After printing the application and invoice you are required to visit an immigration office in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu or Kenya missions abroad to submit the application and all the supporting documentation.
- After lodging the application for a dependant pass. The application will be ready for collection at the immigration office after 7 to 30 working days.
- You shall receive automatic notifications via email and on your online account about the progress of your application.
Step 5: Payment of the pass fees and issue
- Upon approval, applicants shall be notified through their eFNS account.
- The system will auto-generate an invoice for the applicant to pay the Pass Insurance fees.
- Once logged into your eFNS account, click on the "Dashboard" then "Payments" Tab and proceed to make the payment.
- Click on the “wallet icon” to make your payment via the provided payment methods. The processing fee is Ksh. 5,000, plus a 50 Ksh eService convinces
- If unable to pay using any of the online modes, print your invoice by clicking on "Dashboard" then "Payments" Tab and present your invoice and Banker's cheque to any of the Immigration office cash counters for payments.
- Upon making the payment the applicant is issued or instructed on how to collect the dependent pass.
Required DocumentsEdit
- A duly filled and signed Form 28 - Dependant Pass online form. You will print out the form at the end of the application for a dependant pass.
- Detailed and Signed Cover letter from the applicant addressed to the Director of Immigration Services
- Two (2) recent colored passport-size photographs of the dependant
- Copy of a valid national passport / National ID (bio-data page) for both the applicant and the Dependant.
- Evidence of the relationship between the applicant and the dependant i.e. duly certified copies of marriage certificate, birth certificate, and death certificate, whichever is applicable
- Proof of sufficient and assured income to sustain self and the dependant.
- Documents in foreign languages should be translated into English by either the Embassy, Public Notary, or authorized /recognized institution
- Documentary Proof of any other condition leading to dependency e.g. Medical condition, disability, age among others.
- A valid copy of the permit for those applicants holding a work permit (at least six months prior to the date of application).

EligibilityEdit
This pass is Issued to persons who are Dependants of:
- Kenya Citizens
- Permit holders
- Exempted persons
- Permanent residents
The dependant should fulfill either of the following conditions.
- Be a legally married spouse of the opposite sex (Marriage certificate a must).
- Be your child below the age of 18 years ( Birth certificates showing your relationship to them are required)
- Be any other person who absolutely depends on you e.g. parents, brother, or sister among others (You must qualify this using documentary evidence such as medical documents, etc.)
- The dependent must be in possession of a valid passport with blank pages where the Visa will be placed.

ValidityEdit
- Dependent Passes automatically expire once the Spouse’s entry permit expires. Dependent Passes do not need to be renewed.

- All citizens of the East Africa Community(Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi) are exempted from payment of the Dependant pass fee
- Dependant's pass does not entitle the holder to receive education or training in any establishment within Kenya, without a valid pupil's pass
- The dependant pass is not for the purposes of facilitating/evasion from paying visa fees
- Failure to make payment within 30 days from the date of approval will render it null and void

- Although spouses of Kenyans are entitled to a dependent pass on the application in the prescribed manner, the Department of Immigration vets all such applications and considers them on a case by case and may at any time request additional documents to support the application. Such applications can also be rejected.
- Once you obtain your spousal Visa you do not need to renew your Visitors Visa once it expires after 6 months.
- A spousal Visa does not guarantee a foreigner to work in Kenya
