Like any other country in Africa Kenya has restrictions on the amount of money you bring into or take out of the country whether it is cash, cheque, money order or any other form of currency.

Satellite phones and radio communications equipment brought into Kenya without prior clearance from the Ministry of Telecommunications are likely to be confiscated.

  1. Residents and Non-residents are required to declare the amount of currencies they have on them once you they have entered Kenya from any point of entry.
  2. The permissible amount of Kenyan currency one can import into Kenya without declaration is up to KSh 500,000. If you are carrying any amounts in excess of this you should approach the customs office to make a declaration.
  3. Similarly, foreign currencies may be imported into Kenya without restrictions, however amounts exceeds USD 10,000 must also be declared
