Apply Online

1. To Check NHIF (NATIONAL HOSPITAL INSURANCE FUND) Penalties, the applicant has to check the status online via the following link
2. If the applicant is a existing user the applicant can click “Self-care” and enter National ID number and click “Get onetime OTP Pin”.
3. If the applicant is a new user click register and enter the particulars of the applicant and register an account.
4. Click on the left menu and select “Status” to display details regarding penalties and arrears.
5. This entire process can be completed within 5 to 10 minutes.

Apply through App

1. To Check NHIF (NATIONAL HOSPITAL INSURANCE FUND) Penalties, the applicant has to download the NHIF app using the following link
2. After installing click on “Other Services” and enter National ID number and click “Get onetime OTP Pin”.
3. Enter the code and login to access the dashboard.
4. Next click “Payment and Status” and select “Query Status”.
5. Choose whether to check status for self or others.
6. A summary of details regarding penalties and arrears will display.
7. This entire process can be completed within 5 to 10 minutes

Need for the Document

• Any self-employed person who earns a monthly income of more than KShs 1000 monthly or an equivalent of KShs 12000 annually is required to pay a monthly contribution of KShs 500 by the 9th of every month. If the person's earnings are constantly fluctuating, he must pay the dues upfront, either half-yearly, quarterly, or annually.
• The NHIF penalties for late payments were put in place to ensure the fund members are diligent in making prompt payment of their dues.
