- Internship is a prescribed period of employment during which Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) graduate works under supervision to fulfill registration requirements. During this period, the Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse graduates have an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to be competent practitioners.

- Aspiring Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurses (KRCC) who have completed their training and wish to undertake their internship program need to apply for Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) Internship Practice license by making an application to the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). The applicant can make the internship practice license application online by visiting the Nursing Councils of Kenya Online Services Portal through the following link: NCK Online Service Portal
- Make sure you are eligible to make this application. The eligibility requirements are mentioned in the “Eligibility” section of this page.
- Upon entering the portal’s homepage, log into your NCK online portal account, using your NCK students index number and password to make the registration application. If you don’t have an account, you have to create one to make the registration application.
- Under the “Register for Online Services” menu, input the required information.
- Select “STUDENT” under the “SELECT CATEGORY” option.
- Input your “NCK Student Index Number”
- Input your ID Number
- Input your email address
- Upon entering the required information for registration click on the “Register for Online Services” Tab.
- This will cause a confirmation email address to be sent to your email address.
- Log into your email address and confirm your registration by clicking on the “Complete Registration” button, in the email which has been sent to you.
- This will direct you back to the NCK Online Service Portal
- Please edit your profile by adding your Personal, Academic and Professional details, Uploading your Photograph and Changing/Setting your password.
- Upon updating your profile, click on the “Internship” tab in the menu on the left pane , to enter into the next page.
- On the Annual practice License page , click on the “Apply for Internship Practice License ” button to enter the next page where you are required to provide information for your application.
- Please provide required information for licensing. These include:-
- Mobile
- Practice type ( Select Clinical or Non-Clinical)
- Cadre (Select Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse Intern – Post Basic)
- Upload your passport photo.
- Upload heath Declaration ( Not mandatory)
- Confirm that all the information you have given is correct and click on the “Submit Application” button.
- This will cause an invoice for payment of the application fees to be generated.
- On the Invoice page click on the “Click to Pay Now” button to pay for the Internship Practice License
- Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the licensing fees to be paid is given in the “Fees” section of this page
- Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find copies of the receipt ready to be printed.
- Click on the “Download Receipt” button to download the payment receipt .
- Print the receipt and license and keep it for future reference.
- The applicant will be notified when the internship practice license is ready via telephone call and/or email after a period five days. The applicant can download a copy of the internship practice license from the NCK online platform.

NB:
- An internship license and guideline log book are mandatory requirements before the commencement of internship.
- It is illegal to undertake internship without an internship practice license issued by the Council

- Evidence of having completed a Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) training course in a recognized training school in Kenya, OR
- Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) qualified from medical schools within the East African Community (EAC) region and who qualify for reciprocal recognition OR
- Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) who have attained the minimum requirement for admission to training institutions in Kenya, and have qualifications from outside the country must have passed the internship qualifying examinations set by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Evidence of passing the Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse (KRCC) Assessment Exam

- Internship is also supposed to enable an intern acquire knowledge of commonly used drugs and their rational use, be conversant with the National Essential Drug List and know the dangerous drugs and poisons Act and its application.
