Kenya - Apply for a Community Oral Health Practitioner Practice License for Degree Holders

Procedure[edit]

  • A community oral health practitioner provides curative, preventive and promotive oral health care
  • Community oral health practitioners aspiring to practice in Kenya must comply with the statutory requirements for licensing. Failure to obtain the necessary documentations constitutes an offence under section 22 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.
  • One must register as a Community Oral Health Practitioner with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in order to be licensed as an oral health practitioner in Kenya.

Apply Online

  1. A registered Oral Health Practitioner holding a Degree can make an application to be licensed as an Oral Health Practitioner online by visiting the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s Online Services Portal through the following link: KMPDC Online Services Portal
  2. Upon entering your accounts’ homepage, click on the “Create Account” Option to register for an account on the KMPDC online portal. This will direct you to the next page where you are to start your registration process.
  3. Under the “Register for Online Services” menu input the required information.
    • Select “COHO” under the “SELECT CADRE” option.
    • Input your “Practitioners Registration Number”
    • Input your ID/PASSPORT Number
    • Input your email address
  4. Upon entering the required information for registration click on the “Register for Online Services” Tab.
    • This will cause a confirmation email address to be sent to your email address.
  5. Log into your email address and confirm your registration by clicking on the “Complete Registration” button in the email which has been sent to you.
  6. Please edit your profile by adding your Personal and Professional details, Uploading your Photograph and Changing/Setting your password.
  7. Upon updating your profile, click on the “Annual Practice License” tab in the menu on the left pane , to enter into the next page.
  8. On the Annual practice License page , click on the “Click here to make Application for Annual Practice License for 20xx” button to enter the next page where you are required to provide information for your licensing application.
  9. Please provide required information for licensing. These include:-
    • Email
    • Mobile
    • Practice type (Clinical / Non-Clinical)
    • Type of license (Make sure you select Oral Health)
    • Employer Details (National Government , County Government, Private Sector(Health institutions), Training institutions ,Non-governmental organization, Faith based organization, independent Practice, Others)
    • Select county
    • Workstation /Facility
  10. Confirm that all the information you have given is correct and click on the “Save & Continue” button.
    • This will cause an invoice for payment of the application fees to be generated.
  11. On the MPDC Invoice page “Click to Pay Now” button to pay for the Annual Oral Health Practitioners’ Practice Licence
    • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The Payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the Replacement fees to be paid is given in the “Fee” section of this page
  12. Upon making the application payment, a payment receipt and the Annual Oral Health Practitioners’ Practice Licence will be generated online.
    • Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find receipt and license ready to be printed.
  13. Click on the “Download Receipt “ Button and the “Download License” button to download the payment receipt and Oral Health Practitioners’ Practice Licence respectively.
    • Print the receipt and license and keep them for reference.


Apply In-Person

  1. A registered Oral Health Practitioner holding a Degree can make an application to be licensed as an Oral Health General Practitioner by visiting the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC) offices to make the application. The contact information of the KMPDC offices can be found in the “Office Location & Contact” Section of this page.
  2. Here the applicant will be given an Application for Oral Health Practitioner Practice License - General Practice License (BSc)(OH) form to fill and submit. The application form can also downloaded from the KMPDC’s official website through the following (link).
    • Make sure you are eligible to make this application. The “Eligibility” requirements are mentioned in the eligibility section of this page.
  3. Fill in the application form making sure you indicate that it’s a new application and attach the required documents. A list of the required documents is mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. Submit the completed application form and all the required documents to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s offices and proceed to pay the required fees. Details of the required fees for licensing are provided in the “Fees” Section of this page.
  5. Submit the payment receipt to the KMPDC Offices for processing of your licensing application process to begin.
    • At this point the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council will go through your application documents to determine their authenticity and if they meet all the requirements.
  6. Upon completion of the licensing process, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council will contact the applicant to collect their Oral Health Practitioners’ Practice Licence in person.
    • The whole process is usually completed after a period of five days.
  7. The applicant will be required to produce proof of identity when collecting the Oral Health Practitioners’ Practice Licence.

Eligibility[edit]

  • A registered oral health practitioner in Kenya is eligible to make an application for an oral health practitioner practice license in Kenya.
  • The practitioner should have acquired a minimum of 50 Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

  • The license is valid for one year.

Need for the Document[edit]

  • An oral health practitioner needs to be licensed with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in order to practice in Kenya. It is an offence to practice community oral health in Kenya without being licensed with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
