- Foreign Medical Practitioners not registered in Kenya wishing to practice Medicine in Kenya can make an application for temporary registration as a medical practitioner to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC). - Those eligible to apply should collect and complete the Application For Temporary Registration as a Medical or Dental Practitioner Form XVIII, Internship Completion Certificate Form for Dental (if appliable), and Internship completion Assessment Form (if appliable), available at the KMPDC offices or download them via the KMPDC website KMPDC Downloads, (scroll down the page and then click on the “Other Form” option to locate the forms) or directly download them using these Application For Temporary Registration as a Medical or Dental Practitioner Form XVIII and Internship Completion Certificate Form- Dental (if appliable). Internship completion Assessment Form (if applicable)
- Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed relevant application form (s), in all respect, to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC) Office in person or sent on email via [email protected]. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
- The application shall also be accompanied by proof of payment of a registration fee of Ksh. 20,000.00. (All Payments should be made to Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Account No: 1103158643, KCB Bank, Milimani Branch or SWIFT CODE: KCBLKENX BANK CODE: 01175)
- Upon receipt of the application, the receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- The KMPDC office may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the application shall be rejected.
- After submission of these documents, the practitioner is then subjected to peer review or Council exams (Internship Qualifying or Pre Registration Exams). - After the document evaluation phase and the peer review or Council exams (Internship Qualifying or Pre Registration Exams), has been completed satisfactorily the KMPDC office shall prepare the temporary registration certificate that shall be valid for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months within a practicing year, which indicates the approval scope and limitations.
- The time frame for processing the application is within two (02) weeks.
- While collecting the registration certificate, the applicants will be required to submit a copy of their employment letter/ posting letters from the Ministry of Health and identity document to be validated by the Council.

- Certified copies of professional & academic certificates (translated by the respective Embassy)
- Evidence of passing Council’s pre-registration examination, Peer Review Certificate
- Evidence of registration or practice license from country of origin.
- Certificate of status by the regulatory body from country of origin.
- Copies of recent curriculum vitae (CV).
- Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certification.
- Proof of payment (direct deposit) of the Registration Fee Ksh.20,000.
- Employment letter/ posting letters from the Ministry of Health.
- Any other documents may be deemed necessary or as may be prescribed by the KMPDC office.

EligibilityEdit
- Any practitioner not registered in the Republic of Kenya but who, having valid qualifications from a different country, and who are desirous of giving medical services in the course of any humanitarian or other valid cause, is eligible to make the application.
- A person who:−
- is not a citizen of Kenya or of a partner state of the East African Community.
- is a holder of a degree or other qualification recognized by the Council as making him eligible for registration.
- presents proof of registration from the country of origin or any other jurisdiction.
- satisfies the Council that, he has acquired sufficient knowledge of, and experience in, the practice of medicine.
- satisfies the Council that he is a person of good moral standing.
- has passed an examination prescribed by the Council, may apply to the Council for temporary registration as a foreign medical practitioner.
