  1. Usually the Showroom or the dealer is the one who makes the initial payment for the road tax at the time of registration. Otherwise, the owner himself pay the road tax periodically as per the class and type of the vehicle as instructed before due date.
  2. If the owner applies for temporary registration by himself, then he will be paying the tax.
  3. Mostly the dealer or showroom executive will support this process. There will be series of documents which need to be signed by buyer to register his vehicle at the time of purchase.



Pay In-Person

  1. To pay Road Tax in Karnataka, the applicant has to approach the RTO office for his area. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : Contact link
  2. FORM KMV- T - 14 can be obtained from the RTO office.
  3. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees as advised.
  5. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  6. Verification of document and vehicle related inspection will be carried out.
  7. On satisfactory result the authorities will remit the fees for road tax and issue the papers for the same. This tax details will be marked in the RC Book.



Pay Online - Karnataka Pay Road Tax or Motor Vehicle Tax Online with Images

  1. Please use the link to reach online portal Parivahan : online portal link
  2. Enter the registration Number as prompted and hit “PROCEED”.
  3. New screen will open to give options to choose. Choose “Pay Your Tax” to get new screen.
  4. Enter Registration Number then Mobile Number and Click on Generate OTP.
  5. Enter the OTP received at mobile and Click on Show Details.
  6. Crosscheck the details regarding owner information, latest Tax details, Permit Details, Tax Details under Owner Tax Information.
  7. Under Tax Details, enter the number of Month/ Year /Quarter (if tax is up to date).
  8. Select Tax Mode from list-
    1. Yearly
    2. Life time
    3. Quarterly
    4. Monthly
  9. Auto Generated Total payable amount will be indicated, if correct then Click on Payment or Reset if incorrect.
  10. Payment collection Details alert will indicate the all the fees that applicant have to deposit and click on Confirm Payment.
  11. Select payment Gateway, make the necessary payment and save the generated Fees Receipt.
  12. Visit Zonal RTO for further process to complete the procedure.

  • Mention the class of vehicle such as motor cycle with or without side car, motor cab, trailer, etc. while paying the tax.
  • The road tax form should be attached to the form of application for registration when the tax is to be paid for the first time.
  • Similarly, it should be submitted at the time of each subsequent payment of tax.

  • Road Tax or Motor Vehicle Tax is a compulsory tax to be paid by the individual / owner on purchasing a vehicle.
  • The price of the vehicle we purchase usually has two parts
    • Ex-Showroom and
    • On road price.
  • This On road price will have Road tax / Motor vehicle tax included.
  • In Karnataka, the amounts of taxes levied are determined by the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation Act.
  • Different state government has their choice to collect the road tax payment in either annually or all at once.

  • Road tax for imported vehicles includes cost of the vehicle, the customs duty applicable and any other cost incurred in bringing the vehicle to the state for sale.
  • FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities.
