If If your permit is lost or stolen, as a first step you would have to contact your local police station where you have to register a FIR which has to be submitted along with your application.

Apply in Person

  1. To obtain Duplicate Vehicle National Permit in Karnataka the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you with information related to the list of RTO offices: Contact link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

  • The age of the vehicle should not exceed as prescribed years.

ValidityEdit

  • The validity of permit doesn’t change.
  • Permit validity differs with vehicle type.
  • The age of the vehicle is also considered to restrict the validity of the permit.
  • The renewal of permit can be obtained with Vehicle fitness certificate and FC as per authorities of concerned RTO.
NOTE: Validity differs with the type of vehicle and also for the load the vehicle can manage.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per the Section 66(1) of M.V.Act.1988 no owner of a motor vehicle shall use or permit the use of the vehicle as Transport Vehicle in any public place unless he obtains a permit from Regional or State Transport Authority. Issuance of National Road Permit is the subject of State Transport Authority only.
  • The National Road Permit in respect of goods carriage to operate throughout the territory of India or in such contiguous States, not being less than four in number including the Home State in which the permit is issued.
  • One cannot operate his vehicle without this permit in the allowed route.
  • If the permit is lost, stolen, damaged or misplaced then one need to apply for a duplicate permit for the vehicle.

  • Holder of the permit shall furnish to the Regional Transport Authority such periodical returns, statistics and other information as the State Government may, from time to time, prescribe.
  • FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities.
