- If your driver license is valid and it’s stolen or lost, then you would have to file a FIR with the local police station and the report is the vital document to apply for the duplicate driving license
- If it is torn / stolen / mutilated then then remains can be attached for applying
Apply In-Person
- To apply for a Duplicate Driver License in Karnataka the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices. Link for RTO contacts: Contacts Link.
- Application forms can be collected from RTO office.
- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
- The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying duplicate driver license
- Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application and issue the duplicate driver license
Apply Online - Karnataka Apply for Duplicate driving license online with Images
- To apply for duplicate driver license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
- In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
- The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
- Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
- The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
- Please follow the steps to complete the application.

ValidityEdit
A Driving License for a private vehicle is valid up to a period of 20 years or an age of 50 years whichever is earlier, and 5 years thereafter. But, a commercial Driving License is valid up to three years.

- One can apply for a duplicate driving license with the concerned authorities when he/she has lost the original driving license, when the license is been torn, mutilated or destroyed or when it is been stolen away. You should never apply for a duplicate driving license when you have the original one with you in good condition as it is illegal to do so. Issuance of driving licences is a service that is extended by the Transport Department through its District Transport Offices.The holder of the driving license will have to apply for a duplicate driving license. He/she will have to be present in person at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or at the unit office to apply for the same. It is mandatory to carry your ID proof along with you. Atleast one of the ID proof should have your photo in it. No one else on your behalf can apply for a duplicate driving license. It is always advised to apply for a duplicate driving license immediately your original is been lost or damaged. If you exceed a time period of six months from the date of losing your license, then issuance of a duplicate license in your case will have to be approved by the Head Quarter of Transport Department.

- Then search for Services on driving license under apply online area and click there. Enter the required details and proceed as required. Finally when you have an appointment fixed you will have to be physically present to provide your bio-metrics, post which your license will be issued in 10 to 15 days time. If you have an older drivers license you might need to do a backlog entry in case of karnataka state, that takes about a week to complete. You will need a copy of DL, affadavit, and FIR copy for the same. Once submitted, you will get a number linked to your new DL number which can be used online in the link mentioned above. You need to upload your photo and signature and take a printout of that copy, get a payment challan and signature from the RTO official (room 17 in case of bangalore, rammurthinagar)and submit the same.

- A driving license is an official document that states that a person may operate one or more types of motorized vehicles, such as a motorcycle, car, truck, or a bus, on a public roadway.
- Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
- Driving without Driving license is an offense. Incumbent has to pay penalty
- In order to avoid unnecessary penalty and enquiry one has to get the duplicate driving license for the one they lost or damaged.
