Jammu and Kashmir - How to Renew a Driving Licence

ProcedureEdit

  1. Please locate your nearest RTO office, you could also find the contact for your location from the following link : RTO Contact
  2. Download Application Form 9 & 1A appropriately. You can also get these forms from the RTO office as well.
  3. Make sure you have all the necessary documents that are required for the application and that are listed under section "Required Documents".
  4. Submit the completed application form along with the required documents and appropriate fees.
  5. After verifying the documents that are submitted, if the authorities are satisfied with teh documents, your driver license will be renewed.



Apply Online:

  1. To renew a driving license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
  2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
  3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
  4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
  5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
  6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.



Apply In Person:

  1. To Renew a Driving Licence, the applicant has to approach the nearest RTO office – link
  2. The applicant has to get the form from the RTO office or it can be download from the following link – link
  3. The applicant has to enter all the needed details in the form.

  1. To Renew a Driving Licence, the applicant has to approach the nearest Common Service Centre - link
  2. The applicant has to get the form from the office or download the form from the following link – link
  3. The applicant has to enter all the needed details in the form.
  4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the documents which is mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Submit the completed application form along with the required documents.
  6. The fee for this procedure is mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. Once the verification process gets done, the applicant can collect the license from the office.
  8. The processing time for this procedure is within 15days.

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Filled up Application Form 1A (Application cum Declaration)
  • Filled up Application Form 9 (Renewal Application Form)
  • Residence Proof (Attested copy of) :
    • Ration Card
    • Voters Identity Card
    • Certified Copy of Voter List
    • Life Insurance Policy at least six months old with Latest Receipt
    • Valid Passport
    • Employers certificate in case of Central Govt./State Govt./Local bodies supported by attested copy of Identity
  • Age Proof ( Attested copy of ) :
    • Educational Certificate
    • Birth certificate issued by Registrar Birth and Death showing the name of the applicant
    • Life Insurance Policy at least six months old
    • Valid Passport
    • Employers certificate in case of Central Govt./State Govt./Local bodies supported by attested copy of Identity
    • Certificate granted by registered medical practitioner, not below the rank of civil surgeon, as to the age of the
    • Driving License issued by RTO/ARTO (for Date of Birth only)
  • Passport sized photograph

FeesEdit

Renewal of Driving License - 200 INR
Renewal of Driving License after grace period - 300 INR

ValidityEdit

A Driving license is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or till you turn 50 years of age, whichever happens earlier. However, if your license is for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle it must be renewed after every three years.
