Apply Online
- To Apply or Renew Arms (Gun) License, the applicant has to use the following – Link
- Click on the “Apply Here” button to reach the next page.
- The applicant has to click the “State Home Department/DM/SDM/Other/MHA” button.
- Now select the category, state, district, name of the licensing authority, and service.
- The applicant has to enter the unique identification code (UIC), and captcha code and click the “Get Detail” button.
- To complete step – 2, the applicant has to enter all the details in license specific details segment.
- For the third step complete the endorsement details.
- And upload all the necessary documents which are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Fee details will be mentioned in the following step; the applicant has to pay the fee online mode.
- After completing all the processes, the applicant has to click the “Save & Submit” button.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be downloaded. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed successfully, the applicant gets the cancellation firearm license with the authority's signature through email.
- The processing time for this procedure is up to 45 days.

Apply In-person:
- To Apply or Renew Arms (Gun) License, the applicant has to approach the District Magistrate of Jammu and Kashmir – link
- The applicant has to download the form from the following link – link
- Enter all the necessary details in the applicant form.
- Also check the attach documents which is mentioned in the link as well in “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once all the process gets completed, the applicant gets call from the office.
- The applicant has to visit the office for further process.
- The processing time for this procedure is up to 15 – 30 days.

EligibilityEdit
- The license authority shall refuse to grant a license:
- Where such license is required in respect of any prohibited arms or prohibited ammunition
- Where such is required by a person whom the licensing authority has reason to believe:
- To be prohibited by the Indian Arms Rules or by any other law for the time being in force from acquiring, having in his possession or carrying any arms or ammunition.
- To be of unsound mind.
- To be for any reason unfit for a license.
FeesEdit
- Fee information can be obtained directly from the department office while applying.
- Fees may vary in variation of the arms
ValidityEdit
- A license is valid for 3 years from the date on which it is granted (unless revoked earlier) and need to be renewed before one month of expiry
- License may be granted for a shorter period also, if the person by whom the license is required desires or if the licensing authority decides
- License is renewable from time to time - Even the authority can ask for renewal in between the renewal period for recording purpose

Following are the required information to apply for the transfer of arms license
- Applicant details.
- Date of Birth and age.

- Other particulars of the applicant like Convicted – if so, (the officers), the sentence and ate of sentence

- Area within which applicant wishes to carry arms

- Indian national can claim a license for self-defence, general security, sports-Shooting etc.,
- Any person who wishes to carry firearms must first secure a license and has to renew before the period of license lapse.
- Every application for the grant of a license shall be submitted in respective form (usually Form A).
- Arm license (also known as a gun license) is a license or permit issued by government to an eligible individual.
- It needs to be renewed before the validity lapses.

- Any foreign National is allowed to own and bear arms for a maximum period of 6 months during their stay in India, given valid reasons.
- Any Indian who is returning to India and has owned a gun in his foreign residence for over 2 years can apply for an Indian license and bring back the gun they owned abroad.
