Apply Online

  1. To Apply or Renew Arms (Gun) License, the applicant has to use the following – Link
  2. Click on the “Apply Here” button to reach the next page.
  3. The applicant has to click the “State Home Department/DM/SDM/Other/MHA” button.
  4. Now select the category, state, district, name of the licensing authority, and service.
  5. The applicant has to enter the unique identification code (UIC), and captcha code and click the “Get Detail” button.
  6. To complete step – 2, the applicant has to enter all the details in license specific details segment.
  7. For the third step complete the endorsement details.
  8. And upload all the necessary documents which are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  9. Fee details will be mentioned in the following step; the applicant has to pay the fee online mode.
  10. After completing all the processes, the applicant has to click the “Save & Submit” button.
  11. An acknowledgment receipt will be downloaded. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  12. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  13. Once the process gets completed successfully, the applicant gets the cancellation firearm license with the authority's signature through email.
  14. The processing time for this procedure is up to 45 days.

Apply In-person:

  1. To Apply or Renew Arms (Gun) License, the applicant has to approach the District Magistrate of Jammu and Kashmir – link
  2. The applicant has to download the form from the following link – link
  3. Enter all the necessary details in the applicant form.
  4. Also check the attach documents which is mentioned in the link as well in “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. Once all the process gets completed, the applicant gets call from the office.
  12. The applicant has to visit the office for further process.
  13. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15 – 30 days.

EligibilityEdit

  • The license authority shall refuse to grant a license:
    • Where such license is required in respect of any prohibited arms or prohibited ammunition
    • Where such is required by a person whom the licensing authority has reason to believe:
      • To be prohibited by the Indian Arms Rules or by any other law for the time being in force from acquiring, having in his possession or carrying any arms or ammunition.
      • To be of unsound mind.
      • To be for any reason unfit for a license.

FeesEdit

  • Fee information can be obtained directly from the department office while applying.
  • Fees may vary in variation of the arms

ValidityEdit

  • A license is valid for 3 years from the date on which it is granted (unless revoked earlier) and need to be renewed before one month of expiry
  • License may be granted for a shorter period also, if the person by whom the license is required desires or if the licensing authority decides
  • License is renewable from time to time - Even the authority can ask for renewal in between the renewal period for recording purpose

Following are the required information to apply for the transfer of arms license

  • Applicant details.
  • Date of Birth and age.

  • Occupation and designation of office held any
  • Signature/thumb impression.
  • Other particulars of the applicant like Convicted – if so, (the officers), the sentence and ate of sentence
  • Need for license
  • Area within which applicant wishes to carry arms
  • Place where it will be kept
  • Details about the previous license if any


Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Indian national can claim a license for self-defence, general security, sports-Shooting etc.,
  • Any person who wishes to carry firearms must first secure a license and has to renew before the period of license lapse.
  • Every application for the grant of a license shall be submitted in respective form (usually Form A).
  • Arm license (also known as a gun license) is a license or permit issued by government to an eligible individual.
  • It needs to be renewed before the validity lapses.

  • Any foreign National is allowed to own and bear arms for a maximum period of 6 months during their stay in India, given valid reasons.
  • Any Indian who is returning to India and has owned a gun in his foreign residence for over 2 years can apply for an Indian license and bring back the gun they owned abroad.
