Jamaica - Obtain the Minister Marriage License

- The ministry in Charge for issuing the minister’s (marriage) license is the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). You can view their contact details via this link: Link
- Visit the MOJ office customer service section to obtain the marriage declaration form and a blank minister's marriage license form. You can also obtain the declaration form online through the MOJ website: Link or download it directly via this link: Link
- Then have the Declaration form filled correctly using the tips provided in the “Instructions” section below by a declarant (proxy) in the presence of a Justice of the peace (JP), The declarant can be a friend, family member or a marriage officer.
- Then get the blank minister's marriage license form stamped at the Stamp Duty Office located at 111 Harbor Street, Kingston, Jamaica for a stamp duty fee of Jamaican Four Thousand Dollars (J$4,000.00).
- Obtain and prepare all the required documents of both parties to be married. If you are not in Jamaica, you can send these documents to a proxy whose is assisting you with this process
- Return both the complete declaration form and the stamped minister's marriage license form alongside all the required documents to the MOJ office customer service section
- The official at the customer service section will verify your application and if it is correct, will forward it for processing.
- Your application will then be approved and processed by the responsible MOJ department and the minister marriage license will be issued to you.

- Final Divorce Decree or Decree Absolute or Divorce Certificate (If applicable)
- Death Certificate of former spouse (If applicable)
- Documents supporting any change of name (If applicable)
- Letter of Consent if you are 16 or 17 years of age. (Letter is required from your legal parent/guardian and is to be signed in the presence of and certified by a JP or Notary Public for overseas party). (If applicable).

- Both parties must be at least 18 years of age
- If either party is 16 or 17 years of age, parental consent is required
- Parties should not be blood relatives
- Not already legally married to someone else
- Parties must be male and female in keeping with Jamaican Laws

InstructionsEdit
- The License is only valid in Jamaica.
- The License expires 90 days after the date it was issued. However, should it expire before its use; the intended parties are required to reapply for a new license.
- The reapplication process entails: the submission of a new Form of Declaration duly authorized; newly stamped blank Minister’s License form (Page 2) along with evidence of payment. The stamp duty fee maybe transferred pending approval of the Commissioner General of Tax Administration Jamaica or new payment.
- Supporting documents that were previously submitted may be used. However, these documents are only applicable for reuse within 90 days after the expiration date of the license.
- Where original documents are presented, a set of copy documents are also required for office purposes. If certified documents are submitted, clients may request that those be retained for office use or provide an additional set of documents for such purposes
